NCIS: Origins will return very soon with Season 2, and the first details are starting to arrive! But there’s one that got us excited. Very excited. And emotional. The show is crossing paths with NCIS, only in an unexpected way. Read on to find out more!
According to TVLine, Adam Campbell is back as young Donald “Ducky” Mallard! This isn’t the first time Campbell has stepped into the shoes of our favorite coroner as his younger self. He previously guest-starred in four episodes of NCIS. His first appearance came in Season 12, Episode 3, while his last was in Season 18, Episode 2. However, it’s the first time we’ll see Campbell and Austin Stowell sharing a scene.
We already knew that Gibbs met Ducky before we saw them working together on NCIS, so now we’re going to enjoy seeing them together. The episode in which Campbell will participate will be titled “The Edge”—like the song that David McCallum released in 1966—and the official synopsis is “Ducky is sent to Camp Pendleton to shadow the team while they work a case. In the process, he reconnects with Gibbs after the two crossed paths years earlier.”

This guest appearance by Campbell as Ducky on NCIS: Origins is intended as a tribute to David McCallum, who recently passed away and whom we all miss. In the words of co-showrunners Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North, they “wanted to do this episode to honor the memory of our dear friend David McCallum. He was a beloved member of the NCIS family for so many years and we’re incredibly lucky to have the talented Adam Campbell back to bring the younger version of this iconic character to life once again. We even got to feature David’s music in the episode. We’re all very excited and can’t wait for the fans to see it!”
And we’re excited to see everything they’ve prepared for us! We already have our tissues ready…
NCIS: Origins Season 2 will premiere on Tuesday, October 14 at 9/8c on CBS.
