We don’t hide. In this house, we love soap operas! They’re the shows that taught us how to ship. And there’s no ship more iconic than Armando and Betty in Betty, La Fea. A couple whose story is like a roller coaster that makes you cry, laugh, get emotional, and sigh.
At first, Armando only intended to use her by pretending to make her believe he was in love with her, but then he fell into his own trap. He had to fight tooth and nail to get her back, learning along the way to value her and let her go so she could be happy.
So, when Betty La Fea: The Story Continues came into our lives, we devoured it! Now, with Season 2 already here, we’re excited about everything to come. That’s why, every week until the season finale, we’ll get together to talk about everything the show makes us feel in a roundtable. After our roundtable of the episodes 3 and 4, it’s time to review what happened in episodes 5 and 6, which are now available on Prime Video. Ready?
Here we go!
Betty finally accepted Pascual’s offer to rent part of Ecomoda’s offices. Do you think it’s a good decision?
Raquel: I’m not going to say I was surprised. In the end, if they hadn’t accepted, there wouldn’t have been a juicy story here, and this is a telenovela. But this decision is the worst ever. There’s no way it’s going to work out. There’s too much quarrel, bitterness, and ill will—basically from Team Nacho—between them for there to be no problems. But we’re here for the problems, right? Wink, wink. That said, the show did a good job justifying Betty’s decision because it’s the only one they can make right now if they don’t want their company to fail before it even starts.
Lizzie: I mean, I don’t think it’s a good decision, logically speaking. Is it a good decision for the drama that a telenovela requires? Absolutely. It’s such fertile ground for people to go at each other, get mad over little things, and even find common ground sometimes.
The only thing is that I think this season hasn’t really been all that good at showing us why any of these people are supposed to be good at business. I mean, sure, I can’t really find a way out of this, but I’m also not in the industry. You’d think these people, after all these years, would have some contacts, someone they can reach out to, I don’t know… that something could be done. And yet, we just have to accept that there’s not, and take Betty’s decision at face value here. I get it, because show. But I don’t love it.
Betty finally broke up with Armando and gave Esteban, AKA our increasingly unfavorite lawyer, a chance. What do you think about this? Do you think Betty will listen to what Armando has to say about the new potential partner… and about them?
Raquel: I don’t like it at all. Betty has the right to be happy, whether with Armando or away from him. I want to make that clear. However, I think what happened with Esteban was more a consequence of her feeling that Armando failed her than a decision to move forward and explore what she and Esteban can have. Ultimately, I think Betty’s decision was motivated by spite. That never turns out well. And it’s not fair to anyone either.
That said, Betty did the right thing by talking to Esteban and telling him that she’s confused and that right now she doesn’t know exactly what she’s feeling. That was something she should have done long ago, so that Esteban wouldn’t get his hopes up. Now that Betty has opened up, Esteban knows what he’s getting into, and if he wants to move forward, what happens next will be a consequence of his decision.
As for Armando and Betty, I think Betty is still going to refuse to believe Armando about what happened with Majo—seriously, that woman is crazy, she has no dignity at all—which is just a symptom of a bigger problem: they don’t trust each other. Not really. However, I do think Betty will eventually listen to what Armando has to say about his potential partner, and they’ll work together to get him to work with them. I’m hopeful that working together will bring them back together; I’m not hiding it.
Lizzie: LOOK, at this point, I think this is for the best. I liked the secret relationship trope as much as the next person, but it played itself out quickly, with the two of them not wanting to tell Mila. So, I have hopes that if Armando and Betty can work together without being romantically involved (or without acting on their emotions, because these two will always be romantically entangled), then maybe they can rebuild the trust that’s lacking.
In a way, it’s kind of hilarious. Only in a telenovela would people like Majo exist, and these situations Armando finds himself in feel like they only happen to him. Maybe that’s his karma for how he treated Betty at the beginning of their relationship. If so, I fear he’s still got some stuff to atone for, so he’d better strap on.
Marce seems to have let down her defenses with Pascual and let him in, a little. Do you think it was just a one-time thing, or is Marce going to dare to explore what’s developing between Pascual and her?
Raquel: I was so glad that Marce opened up a little and gave Pascual a chance! He’s a good man and he’s madly in love with her. However, I think some of Marce’s fear of what Pascual might mean in her life after what happened with Armando is still there. So she’ll probably want to forget that night and will distance herself again. But I think Pascual will manage to tear down all the walls she builds. He’ll just need time.
Lizzie: I admit I quite like them, and I hope this works out. I think Pascal is sincere, if a little naive, and I think it’s better to have him on your side than not. But that doesn’t mean that Marce just has to do what he wants or what’s best for others. Marce should do what’s best for Marce and what makes Marce happy. Imagine us saying that when the original telenovela was airing. No way, right? We’ve come a long way.
It seemed that the marriage between La Peliteñida and Nicolás was hanging by a thread. Do you think they’ll work out their problems?
Raquel: Nicolás and La Peliteñida have always been this comic relief couple, but I think they truly love each other. They always have. So I’m sure their marriage is safe.
Lizzie: Now that the two have married and considering the divorce storyline with Betty and Armando, I don’t think that’s where this is going. They’re just going to continue to milk their problems for all they’re worth. And hey, if nothing else, they’re funny. I enjoy them.
