Our favorite neurologist is just around the corner, but let’s be honest, it’s been a while since we watched the last episode of Brilliant Minds Season 1. If you need to catch up before the new batch of episodes, we’ve got your back! Here’s everything you need to know about what happened in the Brilliant Minds Season 1 Finale.
A Life of Lies…

In the Brilliant Minds Season 1 Finale, Oliver uncovers truths that shake his world. He always felt guilty about his father’s death. He blamed himself for not having done more, even though he was just a child. That guilt shaped his entire life. Even his relationship with his mother, whom he resented for trying to keep his father away from him.
Throughout Brilliant Minds Season 1, Oliver manages to open his heart. He begins to lower his barriers and lets someone other than Carol in. So, he forms a team with his interns based on trust and dares to be happy with Nichols. He dares to love him freely. The Oliver we meet at the end of the season is very different from the one we meet in the first episode. But everything falls apart quickly. Too quickly.
The father Oliver thought was dead appears in his life. Noah Wolfe is alive. And Oliver’s entire life was a lie. Through flashbacks, in the Brilliant Minds Season 1 Finale, we discover that Noah decided to voluntarily leave Oliver because he considered himself a threat to him due to his mental instability. He asked Muriel to tell Oliver he was dead, because it would be easier to accept.

…And a House of Cards

Oliver’s world comes crashing down. He confronts his mother and calls her out on her lies. She tries to make Oliver understand that she decided what she thought was best for him, but Oliver can’t forgive her, not yet. She lied to him for years, and both she and his father allowed him to live with the guilt.
And when Oliver confronts his father, things don’t turn out much better. Oliver can’t forgive him, but he also discovered that Noah is sick and needs his help. So, at the end of the Brilliant Minds Season 1 Finale, Oliver isn’t sure if his father came to him because he wants his forgiveness and or just because he’s his last hope of recovery.
Understandably, discovering that his entire life was a lie makes Oliver’s walls rise again. Before everything fell apart, Nichols confessed to Oliver that he loved him and invited him to a gala. That gala was important to him, and he wanted to make his relationship with Oliver official, taking their relationship a step further. Oliver was excited and thrilled about it… but that was before.
After his past shattered his life like a bomb, Oliver just needs to get away from everything and everyone, and he dumps Nichols without any explanation. Brilliant Minds Season 2 will have to figure out how they find their way back together.

New Roommates

Oliver isn’t the only one who had to face some challenges in the Brilliant Minds Season 1 Finale. His interns did too, especially Ericka. After breaking up with Marcus because he hid his child from her and set Jacob straight, Ericka isn’t having a good time. After that, her building collapsed and she saw someone die. She tried to help, but couldn’t.
After her recovering, Ericka and Dana become roommates. However, that’s not the only thing that changes. Ericka becomes addicted to pills. Since what happened, she has anxiety and panic attacks, and those pills help her control them. But she starts taking too many. Dana realizes what’s happening help her.
However, although she seems to be able to quit taking those pills, she’s only better at hiding the fact that she’s suffering from anxiety. Brilliant Minds Season 2 will therefore focus on Ericka’s post-traumatic stress disorder and whether or not she managed to overcome her addiction.
As for the other interns, Markus decided to open up to his son and reveal his medical condition: he can feel what others feel. Furthermore, Jacob still hasn’t gotten over Ericka’s rejection, so Season 2 may definitively resolve this love triangle.
As for Carol, she ends up being investigated by the Medical Commission for continuing to treat Allison despite knowing she was her husband’s mistress. She ended the Brilliant Minds Season 1 Finale facing the revocation of her license. Luckily, Carol managed to take control of her love life and finally leave her husband. She still loves him, but he disrespected her, their relationship, and the love they share, and she couldn’t forgive him for it.
Brilliant Minds Season 2 will premiere on September 22 on NBC.
