When it comes to celebrity relationships, I find a little humor in them. Why? I don’t understand why we are so fascinated by them (myself included) because we don’t really know anything about them. Yes, we’re given little sound bites and pictures we can interpret, but what happens behind closed doors? We do not know.
And yet, that doesn’t stop any of us from embracing them or gossiping about them. One of the biggest celebrity relationships we have wondered about was Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney. When they were filming Anyone But You in Australia, everyone thought that they were together.
And hey, that’s chemistry and great PR.
At the time that they filmed the movie, everyone thought that they were cheating on their significant others. There was a lot of drama, but hey, everyone was talking about the movie.
It did result in a breakup – the one between Glen Powell and his girlfriend at the time, Gigi Paris. We didn’t see it coming to the point where we’re still talking about – LONG after it happened.
In June, she was on the Too Much Podcast and talked about the breakup. Gigi said, “It was just, this is what I have to do for my job. I had two options. I could either pretend like I was going along with everything and have everyone wonder, like, ‘Are they hooking up? Are they not hooking up? Is she okay with this? What the f-k?’ Or stand up for myself and say, ‘No, I’m actually not okay with this, and I’m walking away.’ So that’s what I decided to do … I was shattered.”
She continued, “I just wanted respect, especially if it’s gonna be public. Like, don’t make an ass out of me. Like, just don’t make a fool out of someone you’ve been with for over three years talking about forever with. Just have some decency, you know? And at the end of the day, it was like, well, work comes first. And if that’s the case, power to you, that’s your priority. I gotta walk away. What sucked was how it was handled. I felt like I was just fed to the dogs.”
She wanted more from Glen and said, “Where are you when you just need to stand up and say, ‘No, I would never cheat on my girlfriend. I wouldn’t do that.’ That’s all that needed to be said. And that wasn’t said…Never once. It was serving them for their PR. Later on, it turned out that it was all, I don’t know if there was a relationship there or not, but then they came out to say it was all a PR scheme at the expense of our relationship. Like, it was just crazy.”
And hey, she has every right to feel the way that she does and say whatever she wants. After all, it’s her life and her heartbreak. We’re genuinely sad that she had to go through that pain and heartbreak.
Well, Glen didn’t really have much to say, and we respect that. After all, people are allowed to be private about their lives, and we’re never owed an answer. When Glen spoke to GQ he said, “I will always have nothing but love for her and respect for her. Everybody’s always going to have their own narrative on things and all that. And she’s welcome to it.”
“Relationships are really hard. And when two people break up, they each go to their own brunch and they will each tell their own narrative,” he continued.
Regardless of what happened, we just hope that both are happy in whatever they do.
