We don’t hide. In this house, we love soap operas! They’re the shows that taught us how to ship. And there’s no ship more iconic than Armando and Betty in Betty, La Fea. A couple whose story is like a roller coaster that makes you cry, laugh, get emotional, and sigh.
At first, Armando only intended to use her by pretending to make her believe he was in love with her, but then he fell into his own trap. He had to fight tooth and nail to get her back, learning along the way to value her and let her go so she could be happy.
So, when Betty La Fea: The Story Continues came into our lives, we devoured it! Now, with Season 2 already here, we’re excited about everything to come. That’s why, every week until the season finale, we’ll get together to talk about everything the show makes us feel in a roundtable. After our roundtable of the episodes 7 and 8, it’s time to review what happened in episodes 9 and 10 AKA the season finale, which are now available on Prime Video. Ready?
Here we go!
Do you think Betty and Armando were going in the right direction before the season finale? What do you think it means that Betty invited Armando to go with her and Mila?
Raquel: I think they were going absolutely in the right direction. The way Armando gave Betty the freedom to choose which path she wanted to follow, even if it hurt, spoke volumes. And it showed Betty that she could trust him. But I think it was the way Armando understood her, the way he saw her. She hadn’t felt so seen by him since they reconciled so many years ago.
However, Armando had to act like a jerk and messed everything up. It’s normal for him to be jealous and hurt. But Armando has no right to judge her and try to make her feel bad. They weren’t together, and Betty didn’t do anything wrong; on the contrary. Thanks to Armando’s attitude, all the trust Betty had once again placed in him was lost.
However, the fact that he went looking for her let Betty know that Armando would never abandon her. Yes, he messed up, but he’s willing to fight for them. Armando is willing to fight to win back her trust, to return to her. And Betty accepts him. That’s why she invites him to go with her and Mila.
It’s not a reconciliation; not everything is perfect, rosy, and like a fairy tale. They still have a lot of work to do, a lot to rebuild, but it’s a beginning.
Lizzie: There was a moment where I expected things to end much worse than they did, to be honest. It was a rollercoaster! But yeah, I think overall this is very positive. Because before, for a moment, Betty saw the Armando she wanted to see. The one she needed. And though his worst impulses continue to get in the way, the season ends with hope. Maybe they can be a family again.
And this is, perhaps, as important as repairing the relationship between Betty and Armando. It feels like their family was always unbalanced. At no point have the two of them and Mila been a real family, not that we’ve seen. And now perhaps they can build that, and from that foundation, rebuild their love. They’ve always had love, but they’ve never nurtured it properly. Now, they have a chance to.
I also honestly really like this Armando. We spent too long in the original telenovela with the dynamics being flipped in his favor, so if he’s the one who’s desperate these days, well, that’s karma. I can’t wait for Season 3. Because …we’re getting a Season 3, right?
Marce rejected Pascual, and he became completely disappointed in her. Do you think Pascual has a point? What do you think will happen to them?
Raquel: Marce ended up winning my heart, but Pascual is absolutely right about this. Marce has strong feelings for him, but she’s ashamed of him. That’s disrespectful. And Pascual deserves much better than that. He deserves someone who values him and loves him to the fullest, not someone who wants to hide him.
So Pascual did very well not to relent under Marce’s attempts to get closer to him and to pay him back in her own medicine. That said, I think Marce realized she lost a wonderful man because of her own stupidity and classism. She missed out on the opportunity to experience something incredible. So I think Marce won’t stop until she shows Pascual how sorry she is. So I still see a bright future for them.
Lizzie: This storyline is more expected, because it couldn’t just be easy. This is a telenovela! Or, kind of. Now I’m more convinced that they’re endgame, though, because when you throw obstacles like this at a couple, it’s because you care about them. And right now, what we need is for Marce to look inside herself and realize what’s important. To put herself and her feelings first. But that’s a journey for Marce, a hard one. It couldn’t just be like flipping a switch.
And of course, Pascal is hurt. How could he not be? But I haven’t lost hope.
On a scale of 1 to 100, how proud are you of Betty?
Raquel: A 1000! I’m proud that Betty showed the world who she is and finally gave herself the value she deserves. And I’m also very proud that she didn’t let herself be manipulated by Armando and put herself first, for once.
Lizzie: I’m with Raquel in this one. If Betty La Fea: The Story Continues has done something well, it’s given us Betty asserting herself in all of her relationships. And that’s something that she deserved, and something that will likely help her relationships in the long run.
Did you like the ending of Betty La Fea: The Story Continues Season 2? Do you want a Season 3?
Raquel: I want a Season 3 NOW! As for the ending, it was a bit too open for my taste. Let’s just say it wasn’t my cup of tea. The problem for me is that I felt that, after 10 episodes, everything remained the same as it began, especially when it came to Betty and Armando. At the beginning of the season, their issue was trust, and we ended the season with the same problem between them. With the same feeling that they’re there, ready to fix it, once again.
I think that lost trust between Betty and Armando has been, beyond Ecomoda, the central theme of this season. And we deserved for it to be resolved. But it wasn’t. And it’s frustrating. The only characters who grew and moved forward this season were Mila, Betty—a little—and, surprisingly, Nacho. So yeah, I need Season 3 to be clear about where it wants to go and how to get there.
Lizzie: We’re getting a Season 3, because with that ending, we have to. I don’t think they would have ended it that way without being relatively certain that we’re getting more.
I do agree with Raquel that it feels like we went in circles with themes, especially with Betty and Armando. Even Marce feels like she has a more clearly defined arc, these two are just on a hamster wheel, and Season 3 is needed to break them out of it.
