Lizzie and Lyra are taking things to space in 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 2 “Spiraling.” And honestly… the show is focused a little too much on the emergency for us. And we get it. It’s the season opening emergency. But at the end of the day, the thing that’s going to resonate more with audiences are the emotional beats of the disaster, not the actual disaster in space.
Then there’s the whole Hen and Athena going to space thing. Besides Karen, who is the MVP of this episode, why wasn’t anyone else as concerned? Howie wasn’t panicking. Eddie, who just started really working with Hen now that the team has shifted, wasn’t worried either. We guess Buck was concerned but only when comforting Harry, who they took for a ride along for some reason.
But we can’t do this review for “Spiraling” without comparing it to Fast and Furious. Because that franchise knows who they are and manages to balance out ridiculous scenes with actually character arcs. And we can’t believe we’re saying this, but 9-1-1 could learn from the Fast and Furious franchise. Because if they were in charge of this episode they absolutely would’ve had a call back to Eddie hating technology during that robot attack. Just saying.
