Happy’s Place Season 2 is about to premiere November 7th on NBC. But for those who need a refresher, how did Season 1 of the Reba McEntire series end?
Season 1 introduced us to a whole cast of characters dealing with the death of the tavern owner, Happy. At the heart of it was McEntire’s Bobbie, who inherited her father’s tavern. Things get thrown for a loop when she gets a new business partner in the form of Isabella (Belissa Escobedo), the half-sister she never knew about.
McEntire and Escobedo are joined by Melissa Peterman as bartender Gabby. She’s a very recognizable face due to her time on Reba. They’re also joined by Rex Linn, who plays cook Emmett on the show and is dating McEntire in real life. And they’re joined by Pablo Castelblanco’s accountant and germaphobe Steve and Tokala Black Elk’s Takoda, a server and the only truly grounded one of this crew of misfits.
Happy’s Place Season 1 Episode 18 “Alarm Bells” was set up for what we’re going to hopefully see more of in Season 2: Bobbie and Emmett in a romance. All season long they’ve made it clear that these two are friends. But this episode in particular really focused on a romantic spark between them, that was definitely encouraged by Isabella.
In the episode Emmett appears in the neighborhood “coincidentally” after some suspected breakin’s. And Isabella clocks that Emmett was feeling protective of Bobbie. Isabella shares her thoughts with the gang, leading to the gang heading to an arcade for a friendly competition that turns awkward with everyone worried that if something happens to Bobbie and Emmett, it would tear apart the tavern.
One of the final scenes of Season 1 sees Isabella confronting Bobbie about being comfortable. She wants Bobbie to be happy, and embrace change. And Bobbie tells Isabella that comfortable is safe. The sisters keep talking, encouraging the other, before Emmett comes into the office. He asks Bobbie if he can come around every once in a while to check in on Bobbie. Bobbie celebrates with Isabella when Emmett’s not paying attention, but agrees.
And that’s how Happy’s Place Season 1 ends.
