High school was a nightmare when we were in it, but do we love watching movies that are set there. Gives us appreciation for our experience, because it seems like a nightmare these days. But what is the next one that we will watch? Tubi’s new YA Rom-Com How to Lose a Popularity Contest starring Sara Waisglass (Ginny & Georgia) and Chase Hudson (Downfalls High).
After the success of The Quarterback & Me, it’s no surprise that TUBI is upping its YA content. The gist of the movie, “A rebellious student and a perfectionist overachiever form an unlikely alliance in their race for student body president, discovering unexpected feelings along the way.”
WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY
We love a good trope, and the opposites attract one is a favorite. We’re just curious. What other tropes might there be?
“I have wanted to be part of a rom-com since I was a little kid, and this script is that and so much more. We’re having the best time making it, and I can’t wait for people to see the film,” Sarah said
“Sara has all the qualities of a true rom-com actress. She’s so sweet and funny and a true pro when it comes to her craft! I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds,” said co-star Chase Hudson.
“Sara’s on-screen charisma and vulnerability are a perfect contrast with Chase’s roguish charm,” said Tubi Chief Content Officer Adam Lewinson. “We’re excited to keep up the momentum with younger viewers by bringing fun and engaging YA content to Tubi with HOW TO LOSE A POPULARITY CONTEST.”
HOW TO LOSE A POPULARITY CONTEST is executive produced by Devorah Moos Hankin. Lori Massini is executive producing and Lindsay Macadam and Jason Fischer producing on behalf of Great Pacific Media. The film was featured as one of 2024’s The Love List “Best Unproduced Romance Scripts.” It was written by Kaitlin Reilly and Dorian Keyes.
The movie will be released on TUBI, January 16th.
