If you’ve been an avid Wattpad reader, then you know Chasing Red by Isabelle Ronin. The book has over 250 million reads on the platform and was chosen as one of Goodreads Big Books of 2021. To be honest, it’s been a bit since we’d heard about the book, but we definitely got excited hearing it is being made into a movie.
Madelaine Petsch and Gavin Casalegno have been cast as the leads in the film. Mackenzie Munro will direct from a screenplay by Lauren Schacher.
The book is about, “College heartthrob Caleb Lockhart is the last person a girl like Veronica Strafford should be involved with. Intelligent and ambitious, with good reason to be cynical of the world, Veronica refuses to be the campus player’s next conquest, even after a chance encounter sparks an undeniable attraction between them. But with nowhere to stay, and running from recent tragedy, Veronica finds herself leaning on someone else for the first time. Caleb has never wanted something like this before and he’s determined to pursue her, even as the secrets of their pasts threaten to break them apart.”
Petsch will be playing the role of Veronica, a straight A student who doesn’t want to fall for Caleb, but just because she doesn’t want to and is determined not to, doesn’t mean she will. Chemistry is there, sparks fly and she ends up moving into his home. Secrets rise to the surface and well, when secrets come out, that isn’t always a good thing.
Casalegno will play Caleb. He’s not someone that I loved in the book, but I grew to love the guy who cared about nothing and everything changed in a moment when he least expected it. In the book – over time Caleb, I grew beyond thinking he’s ick and saw a different side of a boy that just wanted to be a man that loved.
Chasing Red is the second most read English language book on the Wattpad platform. You can read it on Wattpad HERE but it is also available in published form.
We’ll be monitoring this one. Can’t wait to see it come to life.
