In the middle of a hack, all we were worried about was Blythe on 9-1-1: Nashville Season 1 Episode 7 “You’ve Been Boarded.” And I’m not even sorry. This is how anyone survives a new show when the show is lacking but you’re mildly interested. You pick a favorite and you run with it. And between Blue being as interesting as watching paint dry, Don being Don, and everyone at the fire house not getting development, Blythe is the thing keeping me going.

So… Blythe.
Her being injured was obviously a way to bring together Don and her dad together to talk. About what, you say? Blue. Because all storylines circle around his paint drying character. And that part right there annoys me. Because Blythe has proved time and time again how level-headed, committed, and composed she is. And I don’t agree with her all the time. But even a storyline about her isn’t really about her. It’s about the secrets the men around her keep and their struggle to keep an inexperienced firefighter on the team.

JESSICA CAPSHAW
But let’s give Blythe her kudos even though 9-1-1: Nashville used her as a vehicle to get the men talking. She was stuck in a very dangerous situation. And instead of panicking, like I would, she kept calm and collected. Even when Willy betrayed her (I’m joking. He’s a horse and got scared.) Blythe kept her cool. Then she cut off the barbed wire and got moving, breaking branches along the way to leave a trail. That’s someone who thinks ahead and of the bigger picture. And thank god she survived because I wouldn’t be able to do 9-1-1: Nashville without her.
Now Blue, Don, and Edward.
I’m still of the mind that Nashville is being the height of irresponsibility by having Blue on the team. Putting someone inexperienced out in the field is irresponsible and will lead to someone dying. So yeah, I don’t like Blythe’s dad Edward. But good that he’s trying to get Blue fired. Because Don is being irresponsible and Blythe is also being absolutely foolish by allowing this to go on. These are people’s lives. And if we’re going to call it out on 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 7, you better believe we’re going to call it out here.

HAILEY KILGORE
Another Blue thing I want to talk about, because everything that was happening with the call center only entertained me enough to scream at the TV and hope for chaos, is Blue and Taylor. What was that 9-1-1: Nashville??? Blue is the weakest character of this show. And you’re not going to tempt me to like him by serving up a possible romance. If anything, I want to see Roxie and Taylor connect more and show their dynamic. Or better yet, give Taylor development!
It’s Episode 7 already, 9-1-1: Nashville. At what point are the other firefighters going to get development? Because even as much as I like Blythe, I would trade her screen time to learn about Taylor’s dreams, Roxie’s hopes, and maybe who Ryan is outside of his family and wife. And I know this is a procedural. But your procedural is only as strong as the characters within it. That’s why 9-1-1 has survived so long despite the buffoonery. So if Nashville doesn’t buck up and work on their characters, they’re not going to survive long.
