Read at your own risk – SPOILERS AHEAD
If you thought that Tell Me Lies, Season 3, wouldn’t come back with a vengeance – you haven’t been paying attention. I think that we all know that chaos ensues when these kids are set to return to campus. It’s the end of Christmas break and if there is one thing we know for sure – Steven is not about to let the knowledge that Lucy and Evan slept together go. He’s going to torture them all.
He’s in a position of power – at least for himself. He wants to know when Lucy is going to return to campus and that only means one thing – he’s got a plan. There is nothing that Steven does that is not calculated. He’s a master of manipulation and the person that falls for it all of the time is Lucy.

RETURN TO CAMPUS
You may remember that last season, Wrigley’s brother passed away. Steven had said that he wrote the damning letter to the school and that means that he’s taken the fall for Lucy. But what that also means is that he’s going to use that to his advantage. He’s trying to tell Evan that he wants to move past the things that Lucy has done, because he wants to be with her. But being with Lucy, that’s a game for Steven. Because when it comes to Steven, he’s all about revenge.
Wrigley doesn’t want to room with Steven anymore, which no one can blame him. How Steven has managed to keep friends, I will not ever understand. We start at the wedding and all we know is that Bree says that she’s the worst person ever. We know that Lucy has been reminded that Steven ruined her life, sophomore year, and Lucy is being stupid and listening to his BS. How is it that this show takes seconds to remind you that Steven is the worst of the worst? He’s a walking red flag that people need to stay away from.

Returning to campus we know that Bree spent time with Lucy, Pippa is back with Wrigley and Evan is wrapped up in wanting Bree’s approval. Bree, Pippa, and Lucy are doing everything they can to make sure that they can justify their actions, but you can’t help but wonder if there is any justification.
A decades party to welcome people back to school, and none of these kids should be going. However, the crazy part about Tell Me Lies is that it doesn’t matter what the characters should be doing, they are going to make missteps. Even if you think you know where someone stands, you don’t. Lucy’s not going to listen about Steven, Bree is going to want to have a grasp on Oliver, and Pippa feels a commitment too Wrigley that doesn’t always make sense.

MOLLY
Bree loves Evan, but she loves Oliver so much. Oliver acts as the Bree doesn’t exist and I think that hurts her even more. Bree believes that he’s moved on and her obsession with Oliver is something that I do not think that she’s able to get over. It’s going to be chaos.
There are the talks that people need to be nice to each other. Lucy and Steven, if you have to tell each other that, there is an issue. Steven says that he knows, but he knows nothing. The red flags are always flying around Steven. For the life of me, I can’t figure out why anyone would fall for Steven. Like what do you hate so much about yourself that you would let a man like that hurt you?
At the decades party, the crew decides to do molly. Being on drugs is a bad choice, but all of them letting Wrigley be on drugs is the dumbest thing ever. Surprisingly the only person who isn’t afraid to tell Pippa that Wrigley shouldn’t be taking drugs is Diana.
Now Diana isn’t my favorite, but we all have to admit that she got smarter as time passed. She wants to be out of that group. She has an idea of what she wants to do and who she wants to be. I don’t think that Diana was out of line reminding Pippa that Wrigley is going through a lot emotionally, and his come down from taking molly may not go well. Pippa may not like hearing it, but it doesn’t mean she was wrong saying it.
And by the time that Pippa tries to tell Wrigley not to do it, he’s already done it.

DIANA (NOT THE PRINCESS)
Tell Me Lies is like one big gaslighting engine. It will make you believe that everything is your fault and that you should have noticed what was happening and prevented it. But since you didn’t even though the characters are fictional, somehow it is your fault for not stopping them from their mistakes. Wrigley wants to numb himself and we all have to acknowledge that self medication is a thing. It’s not his fault that people treat him like he’s broken – in his mind – so it’s natural that numbing himself is going to come. As a viewer, you can find yourself wondering how you could have stopped it.
That’s what television is all about – evoking emotion. Like when Bree is as high as a kite and needs to go home and Wrigley says he’ll walk her. The two have a deep talk, and she admits things to him that she hasn’t to anyone else. Like the guy she slept with was 45 and married. He doesn’t know how he missed that, and she’s like well your brother died. They talk about where she came from, how his parents look at him, the things that they shouldn’t be saying to each other, but here we are. Everyone tells him things will get better, but she knows that isn’t going to happen and she’s not going to hold back on telling him that life will not get better and the pain will remain.

EVAN NEEDS TO STFU
It’s fair to say that they needed each other at that moment. Their conversation was helpful to the two of them and that’s what matters. Sure, they fell asleep on bus benches and slept outside, but hey – college.
I don’t believe that Stephen took the molly, but he uses it as an excuse to try to get Lucy to admit that she slept with Evan. I have to admit that I was impressed that even on drugs she didn’t let it slip out. She would have gone to the grave with that one if she could have. It isn’t until Steven comes back the next day that she is forced to admit it, after he tells her that Evan told him.
Evan is a good man, but he needs to learn to STFU. Not everything is meant to be told. Somethings need to die with you. Lucy begs for forgiveness, but Steven sees this as the chance to play a victim.
He is not a victim.
Lucy is most definitely going to punish herself for this. When will she realize Steven is trash and she deserves better. He’s taking advantage of her feelings and using it to try and make himself feel better. Steven DeMarco is the spawn of Satan.

THE PAST, PRESENT, AND 2015
Pippa confronts Diana – at least she’s one of the few here that is willing to stand up for herself. But, I think even she knows that he messed up feelings about Wrigley, about the events of the last year, and about Diana are her own making. She has to allow herself to just be free. It’s college – explore those emotions. There is this shame with this show – that each of its characters are supposed to feel bad because of how they feel. It’s the suppression of those feelings that keep causing issues. That said, I want these two to find their way.
The past is always going to confront all of them. For instance – Lucy is called into the Deans office, because her saying that Chris had assaulted her made his parents file a report. For Lucy, in her own mind, she’s justifying it by telling herself that she wanted to be able to protect her friends. It wasn’t for her to decide though. Pippa’s never gonna do anything about what happened to her and that’s her right to protect her mental health.
It’s the day of the wedding. All of these things are leading up to something bigger set to happen. What that is, we don’t know yet. We do know that Bree and Evan say their “I do’s” but we think that doesn’t mean that the secrets are going to stay buried.
Tell Me Lies Season 3 is about to be a dumpster fire and we’re ready for it.

OTHER THOUGHTS
- Not sure why Evan is so butt hurt over the possibility of not knowing all Bree’s stuff, but he doesn’t ask her questions
- Evan needs to explore why Bree’s approval is so important
- Evan going to Oliver for advice is comical
- I think Bree and Wrigleys chemistry is insanely good
- Lucy needs to learn from her mistakes and she never does
- How has Steven gotten away with all of this for so long.
- The VIP of this entire show is sometimes Wrigley and that should be acknowledged.
