Oh, yay, it’s Tell Me Lies, Season 3, Episode 2, and it feels like freshman year all over again. Steven is in peak manipulation mode, Wrigley’s a mess, and Evan’s avoiding everyone. The thing is, though – it’s all due to come out. Just give it time, and they are all going to be faced with the things that they are trying to keep in.
You see, with this crew, there are roles. There are some pretty screwed up roles, but each of them seems to have accepted them for what they are. It’s karaoke night, and that is never a smart idea. Bad singing, alcohol, and anger? That is a recipe for disaster.
But I think that one of the biggest mistakes that everyone keeps making is treating Wrigley like he needs to be watched, and then also some of them ignore him. It’s this weird thing that the only person who seems to be able to relate to Wrigley is Bree. Karaoke has brought them together, and Pippa is telling him that he’s going to have a class with Bree, and she can look out for him. The way that he has to tell her to stop telling people to look out for me – I am reminded why they broke up.

STEVEN AND LUCY
Steven and Lucy are seriously insecure about everything. I don’t get Lucy’s need to be loved by Steven – if a man treats you this badly, he doesn’t need to be your man. He agrees to go out, agrees to go to karaoke, and then leaves her to sing by herself. Bree is that bestie who shows up and sings with her. While I understand that Steven may not like seeing everyone be able to move forward with what Evan and Lucy did, let it go, man.
Tell Me Lies isn’t going to back down, though. They are showing us all the toxicity that can come in relationships, as well as showing what mental abuse is. There isn’t a relationship in this series that makes any sense on a healthy level. They are all built on lies and manipulation. It’s a mirror to the way that things can be really bad, but also allows people to look at relationships and know that this is what they do not want.
The way that Steven feels the need to punish Lucy at every level is insane. He leaves the bar because he can’t stand to see her and Evan together. Sir, you’re a liar. You don’t care about who she’s been with, and you’ve also been with other people – so calm down.

BREE HAS LOST IT
Bree is the one that I underestimated. She really has lost her marbles, and the fact that she has befriended Amanda just because she thinks that she’s with Oliver is a lot. Bree tells her everything positive that she needs to hear, and feels some comfort because it turns out Amanda is in a relationship, and her boyfriend is living in New York City.
That night, Bree, Pippa, and Lucy are all going through their stuff. They all head to talk with each other, but Lucy’s panic attack happens, and they have to call in Alex for help. He’s the guy who sold them molly and can now get them xanax. The way that Alex and Bree keep looking at each other, but also the way that he’s looking at her like he wants to protect her, is something interesting, because no one looks at her that way. She gets to feel peace around him, and he’s also a person from her past.
Lucy is feeling guilty over everything with Evan and Steven, and I do feel bad for her with that. But at some point, she’s going to have to let it go. Especially when Steven calls her over to talk about what it is. He says he can get past it if she tells Bree what she did. What does that solve? It doesn’t solve anything. It would just punish Bree, Lucy, and Evan. The only person that it would make it feel better is Steven, cause he thrives off people’s pain. For Lucy to stand up to him, though – that’s everything.
Lucy doesn’t allow herself to be put down by Steven. He is effectively trying to make her choose between him and Bree. Lucy tells him he is making her choose, and of course, she’s going to choose Bree. Steven threatens to tell Bree, but he won’t. Lucy is right when she tells him he won’t because then he won’t have anything to hold over her head, and he needs something.
Steven is predictable that way. I just don’t think that Lucy will be the one to learn from this situation, and that is a problem.

OLIVER SUCKS
Some people need to learn to stay in their own lane, though. For instance, Evan sees Bree on her way to class. When he sees her race off when Oliver is coming that way, he puts two and two together and realizes the man that Bree was with was him. This infuriates him, and Oliver tries to control the situation by bringing Evan into his office. To no shock, Oliver is denying everything, and he’s trying to gaslight Evan.
I am not surprised that Evan is going off on Oliver. Oliver doesn’t like what he is saying and tries to tell him that whatever he is doing is going to make him less attractive to Bree. Evan loves Bree, no matter if they are together or not, and wants to protect her. Oliver is going to protect himself. He cares nothing about Bree. Oliver is all about using people for his own gain and protecting his own wants. He wants to sleep with students. Why this is okay with him and his wife, I don’t get. Evan tells him off as he leaves the office.
Steven is mad at Evan and tells him it is because he shouldn’t have told him about sleeping with Lucy. He and Lucy have broken up, and they won’t be getting back together. Evan stands up to Steven, and somehow, Steven puts his attitude under control. I’m so proud of Evan and finally standing up for himself because he does not deserve Stevens’s cruelness. He couldn’t stand the thought of those two together, and he couldn’t forgive Lucy. These men and playing the victim all the time. Even tells Steven that his and Lucy’s breakup was probably for the best. I am just wondering if Evan is new to this circus, because he should know Steven is not going to let this go.

DIANA AND PIPPA
The best moment of this episode is when Diana and Pippa finally talk to each other. Diana admits that she’s been thinking a lot about Pippa, too. She suggests that they kiss, and when they do – well, they like it. We, as viewers, have long seen all of these characters finding parts of relationships that can be healthy. I am all for Diana and Pippa being together.
The second best part of this episode was Wrigley and Bree in class together. The two of them have a fun banter – even if some of it is deeply disturbing jokes. Bree and Wrigley together isn’t something I woulda have thought I wanted, but I do want them together. Photo class – I am all for it. I want them to be together because I feel like they could have a healthy relationship. I think that Bree is afraid of hurting Pippa, but I think Pippa would be okay with it.

OTHER THOUGHTS
- All Steven’s backhanded insults to Lucy – you need to eat dirt and kick rocks, Steven
- The comment about flirting with the bartender, let it go
- Wrigley saying that if he wanted to kill himself he’d find a way – honestly, then saying it was a joke? I cried. That poor guy needs help. He needs understanding
- Bree is the only person who treats Wrigley like he’s not broken, and he needs that.
- Lucy keeps trying to find a way to comfort Steven, and I am wondering why. Steven doesn’t deserve it.
- I wanna know more about how Alex protected Bree in the past
- Amanda is calling Bree for coffee, and then Amanda makes it seem she is with Oliver – this doesn’t sound good at all. Bree is gonna spiral out of control
- Amanda, girl, learn not to trust everyone
- Lucy is not able to sleep and then heads outside to see the hot guy – go hook up with hot guys. Move on, Lucy. Don’t trust Steven.
