As much as Lizzie and Lyra loved the opening montage in 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 9 “Fighting Back” we’re lost as to where this season is actually going.
In the previous episode of “War,” it was revealed that the loss of Bobby was central to why Hen hid her illness. And just like we predicted in our podcast review for that, that grief was nowhere in this episode. Instead we got an opening montage that was light, fun, and showed everyone coming together for Hen before the rug was pulled out from underneath us with a time jump. And it leaves Hen’s story on shaky ground, even though we loved that she’s still fighting.
Then there’s Harry, who got major development. Not only is he a probie now, he’s coming home to the 118. And we love that bit of nepotism for him because family. We also liked that he was shook after his fall, came to Buck for advice, and worked through it all with Athena. But everything with Harry made us realize how he also wasn’t given a chance to grieve Bobby. Neither has May.
With all these time jumps, one thing is clear on 9-1-1: we’re getting closer to the anniversary of Bobby’s death. And we’re hoping they actually remember it. But we’re also hoping that the show starts giving us some direction soon. Because we don’t really know where this season is going or what the guiding star is anymore. It used to be Bobby. He kept it all together. And it just feels like we’re treading water with no direction in sight.
We discuss that all and more in our newest episode of Tales From the 118!

Have you read Lizzie’s review for 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 9 “Fighting Back”? Here’s a preview:
“9-1-1 Season 9, Episode 9 ‘Fighting Back‘ starts with a pretty entertaining little montage that sets the stage for an episode that isn’t nearly as light as the first few minutes make it seem it will. Because Hen is still struggling, and it’s been a while. It all seemed like it was going to be easy. Or not easy, but doable.”
