When it comes to When Calls The Heart, you can tell that The Hallmark Channel puts a lot of stock and support into the show to make it the best it can be. When Calls The Heart is special – it examines the community, the legacy, and the relationships that define Hope Valley. It is only fair that as much thought as possible is put in the show, because it is so near and dear to the fans.
I am not sad that we’re at a point where we are wrapping up part of the fire storyline. It’s actually the truth behind what happened that infuriates me. Putting kids in the position to take the blame is just too much.
The storyline of this episode sets up so much information about family, secrets, and Hope Valley moving forward. We get to see how a new piece of equipment makes its way to Hope Valley – a polygraph test.
What the show is excelling at is introducing new parts to the story in order to tie up the story. A lot of the time, what a show tends to do is bring in people that the viewer doesn’t care about. However, here we’re left with a community that is cleaning up and getting answers.
The polygraph making it to town was interesting. Oliver is the first person to have to be hooked to the machine and I thought Nathan would use it as a moment to judge his feelings for Allie. But he doesn’t and. restrains himself.
LEMON CURD
Nathan and Elizabeth do belong together and I am very much looking forward to their wedding one day. For now, their relationship just continues to grow. Elizabeth says that she’ll make dinner that night and will make her lemon curd, as it is Nathans favorite.
With Elizabeth, I would say that she falls for everything, but she doesn’t. She just wants to be good to everyone and to make sure that there is the sense of community there. Dinner seems to go well, but no one wants anymore of Elizbeth’s lemon curd. You can see by the look on Georgie and Bill’s face that it’s not the best.
And they call Nathan out for lying.
Nathan holds strong though and tells them he does love it. Unfortunately for him, the polygraph is in town and they suggest that he takes it. You can tell by the look on Elizabeths face it is all for fun and she’s fine with whatever it is.
No surprise that Nathan was lying and he really tried to cover it up. LJ is surprised that Nathan would lie, which to me shows just how much he loves and admires Nathan. What I loved was LJ using this as an opportunity to see if Nathan is going to marry his Mom.
No one likes Elizabeth lemon curd, which hey, that can be okay, because then she doesn’t have to make it again.
DADDY SAYS…
When I first started watching this show, I hated Henry. He was a complicated man (still is) and he knows that he wants to be a good one.
With the rock things that were in his sons car – it has to be hard. Save your son? Do the right thing and tell the mounties what you’ve found? For Henry, his relationship with his son has always been complicated but Henry know that he’s got to talk to him.
He knows that the boys didn’t do it. It has to be hard for Henry to tell his son to turn himself in. I think that Henry showed exemplary courage telling his son to do the right thing. Christopher seems afraid.
But Christopher does the right thing. He admits her wouldn’t have done it without his father finding the stuff in his trunk, which says something about Christopher’s character. I am just glad that he did and the boys and their families no longer have to wonder.
We did find out it was a transformer that started the fire and Christopher had been sent in to clean it up. It just turns out he left some of it behind. He was able to tell the mounties where he buried the transformer.
THE NEW CONTRACTOR
With Lee needing to take better care of himself and the rebuild around the corner there is a new contractor coming to town.
Lucas is more involved in the Benson Hills renovation project while Lee is resting. He meets Fernando, the new contractor. He and Fernando are getting along well, but there’s always some sense of drama, it’s just this one we didn’t see coming
Fernando is Edie’s ex-fiance. When Lucas finds out he seems kind of drained. I will be interested to see how this changes things moving forward.
HOSPITAL VISITS
Gwens Dad is finally ready for visitors and who better to take her than Lee. Gwen and Lee have grown close, and with Rosemary keeping him on lockdown since his panic attack it will be good for him to get out.
Gwen seems somewhat terrified to see her Dad. She’s lost so much that she’s afraid of loosing more. I don’t think we can fault her for that. She loves her father – unconditionally. There is a fear that she’s been fighting.
Luckily talking to Lee, she’s able to find her confidence to go see her Dad. And Lee, well he’s able to realize that yes, he’s wanting to be a bigger part of Goldie’s daily life. He wants to make sure his daughter know that she is absolutely loved and worshipped.
Gwens whole demeanor changed seeing her Dad. She found hope and I think that was so essential for her. She loves being with Lee and Rosemary, and I think it will be hard to leave them eventually, but she knows that there is no place she’d rather be than with her Dad.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- Allie and Oliver are too cute.
- Nathan describing the ways that he loves Elizabeth – that was cute
- Leave it to LJ to protect his Mama – that was great
