Boston Blue finally returned this week with Season 1 Episode 10 “Hard Truths.” It feels like it’s been forever since we’ve had a new episode, and we’ve been not-so-patiently waiting to see what the fallout would be from the show’s mid-season finale.
This episode wasted absolutely no time in letting us know that Jonah is not a murderer, which is a huge relief. We appreciate that one of the main characters (and, not to mention, a cop) is not a killer. “Hard Truths” also gave us a different dynamic by switching the partnerships so that the Silvers and the Reagans could find Ben’s real killer. We review.
Switching Partners

We love Lena and Danny’s partnership as well as a Sean and Jonah’s. But “Hard Truths” had to switch things up and gave us Lena/Jonah and Sean/Danny this week. Obviously, Jonah couldn’t investigate the case. Since Lena couldn’t lead the investigation, Sarah believed Danny was the best person. And they conveniently put Sean on “administrative leave” so he could help. We enjoyed watching the brother/sister and father/son duos work together this week.
Danny had the hard task of leading the investigation of Ronan’s murder while trying to teach Sean the right way to help his partner. First, we should congratulate Danny on officially becoming a member of the Boston P.D. He did a solid job in leading the investigation and eventually caught O’Keefe (more on that later). But we loved that he called Sean out on lying for Jonah. That’s not helping his partner. He also helped Sean by showing him the breathing techniques to calm him after he was shaken from the fire. So, not only was Danny a good cop this week, he was an even better father.
Lena and Jonah’s work this week was maybe even more impressive than Danny and Sean’s, but for different reasons. First, we want to hand it to Jonah; we were really hard on him after the last episode, but he did some solid detective work this week. Lena definitely noticed. We loved that Jonah said he learned it from his “big sis.” Impressing your big sister and commenting that you learned from her? Yeah. Jonah earned some major points with us this week.
We would love to see more of them working together in the future. We always enjoy a good sibling relationship, and these two may be in the running for one of our favorites.
Arresting O’Keefe and Finding Closure

Our favorite scene this week was Danny, Lena, Jonah, and Sean finding O’Keefe. Sean comforted Jonah by teaching him the same breathing techniques that Danny taught him. This was such a powerful moment between these two friends. Sean didn’t hesitate to help, and Jonah let himself show his emotions and allowed his friend to comfort and help him. We wish more shows would let men show their emotions and have strong friendships with other men. It’s sad to us that this is still so rare. Good job, Boston Blue. We’re glad you let us have Sean and Jonah’s amazing friendship.
We liked that Danny gave O’Keefe to Lena and Jonah. As the lead detective, he could have arrested him and taken him to the station for booking. But he knew how much this arrest meant to Lena and Jonah so he let them have it. By doing that, he helped his partner get closure by arresting her father’s killer. And he showed Sean how to help his partner.
These four characters were amazing the entire episode, but they shined the most in this scene. They finally caught Ben Silver’s murderer. And we hope that the Silvers can start to move forward with their lives now that they have closure.
Other Thoughts:

- “Superintendent Sarah Silver.” You tell him. We love a powerful woman, and Sarah wasn’t going to take any crap from the guy who ordered the hit on her father. We’re glad she was able to get some revenge, too.
- While we enjoyed watching the Silvers and the Reagans take down O’Keefe, there’s no way that they should have been working this case. In the real world, none of them would have been allowed near any of this. But, luckily, this is a TV show, and we watch TV to be entertained. Not be realistic.
- “Are Danny and Sean okay?” We love that was Jonah’s first question. He cares about his Reagans.
Boston Blue airs Fridays at 10/9c on CBS.
