It’s been awhile, but we were really happy for the Olympic break. We needed to rest and recharge. Don’t get me wrong, we love DOC, but it has been something that we haven’t been looking forward to. We have not wanted Richard Miller to be back. We don’t trust or like him and his return (to us) feels like a slap in the face to all the doctors on the Internal Medicine floor.
Miller has a lot of courage to want to come back. Everyone knows what happened with him and so he is on an uphill climb.
I just think that what he’s really for is something he’s most likely not gonna get. He’s just gonna effect everyone else along the way.
THE DELIVERY
It makes me so sad to see what has happened to the food delivery gentleman in this episode. He’s delivering food and collapses, having to be rushed into the hospital. He’s in kidney failure and it is Dr. Miller left to figure out why.
It turns out that Abe doesn’t ever urinate when he needs to. He’s working religiously to make a better life for his wife and son. He doesn’t realize that what he’s doing is damaging his body. But he does have a point, that for him it’s a catch 22. Restaurants don’t allow them to use their restrooms and he can’t afford to keep going out of his way in order to find a place to go to the bathroom.
Which angers me. We have all of these restaurants that people are ordering from and these delivery drivers are an important part of the ecosystem. Them not being given the grace of being able to use a restroom is demeaning and is hard on their health.
The man has to have surgery and I feel worse for him. I feel worse because he’s terrified that he is not out there working and then can’t take care of his family the way he wants to,

At the end of the day – he has two surgeries and we get to see a different side of Richard. Richard feels for the man and goes above and beyond and gets him a job at the hospital. Is there a moment where I feel for Richards redemption and that it is possible.
AMBULANCE CHASER
Amy’s been requested by a lawyer, who wants her to be his doctor. He believes that she’s the best and he’s got headaches that won’t go away. Being someone who has chronic migraines, I know how hard that is and you just want the best doctor you can find. If I went to this hospital – the duo of Amy and TJ seems ideal to take care of me.
The two are very thorough and are running every test known to mankind to make sure that they cover everything. His headaches are not getting better and are instead getting worse. With every treatment and every test that is done, the lawyer seems to be waiting for them to do something wrong.
And that scares me.
It turns out that this guy has a brain ameba and they have to send him into hypothermia to kill it. It was very weird.
What we also get is him telling Amy his story and the understanding of why he does what he does. It’s a reminder that we don’t know anyones battles. Whatever we may think is not always the reality of what is.
RICHARD
I don’t know what Richard was thinking coming back to work. I do understand that he wants to be the best doctor that he can be and that is his passion. Richard is trying to not explode over anything, and instead wants to earn recognition. He wants to make people move on from his past mistakes.
As much as I dislike Dr. Miller, I do think that he’s got courage to come back. Even when he’s trying to make nice, he is getting shut down at every turn. I think that Amy is the hardest person for him to come up against, because she is waiting for him to fail. You know that she hates him when she’s willing to look out for Sonya versus Richard.
Seeing the flashbacks with Amy and Richard and knowing that they used to get along – it saddens me for both of them. You see them loose a patient and it destroys them both. But they pep talk each other.
Richard has an uphill battle to go. Whatever he has to face, he’s going to though, because he wants to be there.
I just don’t know how long it will last.

JOAN
I feel for Jake. TJ and Sonya have come to him with what they have found about Joan. Having to face your boss and tell them that you have a suspicion that something more is wrong – you’re putting everything on the line.
Joan is not my favorite person. As a matter of fact, I think she is evil. I also think that she is partially like Richard. She’s hiding things in order for people to not look down on her but that means that he is putting patients at risk. So what does one do there?
Eventually Joan is going to fight back and she does. Abe needs someone to finish the surgery and Joan does it. This means that Jake is going to feel her wrath. She needs to re-exert her power and does that by telling Jake off.
So few have the courage to stand up to Joan. Jake will not let Sonya or TJ put themselves in harms way and so he’s gonna want to control that. But that also means that he’s gonna bring in Amy.
Joan became so angry because she knew she was in the wrong. Unfortunately as this all unfolds I feel bad for everyone in her way.
Jake turns to Amy to talk about Joan and if I am being honest, I hope the two get her out of there. Expose her.
MICHAEL
Michael has to bring Simon to work nd that definitely makes everyone happy. Babies are a blessing.
I like Michael and I think that he brings so much to DOC. What is hard is that Michael is constantly taken for granted by the hospital and even by Amy. Now, Michael loves Amy and he’s realizing that more and more. So how is that he can survive at the hospital – when he’s put between a rock and a hard place.
Michael wants to find his way out of the hospital but as he’s looking for a new position, he’s being told with all the issues that Westside has faced, he should just lay low for awhile. For Michael, this may be a hard pill to swallow.
He is lucky though because even after all of these issues that he has gone through with his life and with Gina, the two are rekindling their friendship and they both need each other at this point.
Michael needs someone rooting for him, but so does Gina.
This hospital has to find its way.
