Ghosts is an incredibly special series that consistently delivers worthwhile and deeply human moments, with its entire ensemble cast getting significant moments to shine. For our favorite peace-loving gal, Flower, in Season 5’s “The Others,” she gets to confront the cult she was a part of and come to the realization of just how important she is to all the other ghosts.
Fangirlish got to sit down with Sheila Carrasco, where she told us that, “It was really nice seeing all of my fellow actors and how nervous they were about it, how protected they were of Flower.”
Flower, also known as Susan Montero before she was a member of the cult, could’ve easily been comic relief, but one of the things that remains consistent with Ghosts is how the writers ensure that these characters feel loved and cherished in their time stuck at Woodstone. When Flower is first believed to be “sucked off,” Hetty steps up to help her out of the well in “Holes Are Bad.”
And now, the reaction that each of the ghosts has to the belief that Flower has rejoined the cult is allowing her to see that they still care. As Carrasco says, Flower knows how loved she is by the Woodstone Ghosts, and how her reaction to the cult is, “‘Oh, you people. No, these are my people [Woodstone Ghosts] now. This is my new cult.'”

On an ensemble show, it can also be challenging to ensure that all characters share enough screen time, but Sheila Carrasco teases that we’ll be seeing Flower and Isaac in the same room again. “We do get to have a little bit more together, because we do follow up on the election stuff—the Ghost Representative stuff later—and so I’m really excited about that. ‘Cause I think Flower and Isaac have a really funny dynamic, and it’s going to be cool to revisit that later.” We’ve never been more seated.
It’s also worth mentioning that a large part of the excitement with the Ghost Representative debates resurfacing is that we’ll likely get to see more of Susan because that’s when she comes to the surface to remind us that Flower isn’t just some forgetful woman chasing butterflies.
But as Carrasco reminds us, “She’s still Flower. And Susan is Flower.” The wisdom and strength are all inside of her, which is exactly what makes her decision to double-cross Bruce and the cult from the inside such a strong showcase of her character.

As romance fans, we also had to ask about Thor and Flower and if there’s anything Carrasco could tease about their relationship this season, but it’s her answer that’s ultimately best because it’s a showcase that while our couples don’t always share a scene, they’re still with each other. “I really love how independent they are. They don’t seem codependent. […] They’re people, you know, they’ve been living in this house together for 60 years before they even got together, so their own individuals in their own rights. So, like, I love that about them, and I think that, um, that, you know, the more they navigate the afterlife together, they get to find more out about themselves, but they also really know who they are anyway.”
And Ghosts always does such a beautiful job of ensuring we see our characters individually while also pairing them together, making the couples more exciting.
