I Am Stepping Onto My Soap Box Again
I think that we all know that we’re living in a hockey era and that’s okay. Well it’s okay to a point, but we’re going to try to not start in on locker room gate (IYKYK) and just take all of the hockey for what it is – the boy aquarium. Well, at least in the vertical drama world it’s the boy aquarium, because we have yet to see female hockey teams on platforms. That all being said – whomever comes up with these titles needs to be fired, because these vertical titles are absolutely horrid.
Puck Me Baby One More Time? I was half expecting Britney Spears to pop out and do an Instagram video once I pressed play.
You may be asking why it is that I pressed play then. Well, Kirby Ellwood and Marc Herrmann starring in the series is the short answer. The delulu answer – I, a person who hates sports, do love all the hockey series. The long answer – there isn’t one.
Every time that a character is drugged in a vertical series – I roll my eyes. Why? Because first I think it’s irresponsible to do that and also there are many reasons for having a one night stand. Why is the extreme always where we go to? Is it so faces aren’t remembered? shot of whiskey can make that happen also.
Hockey superstar Alexander Vaughn is drugged in a bar and he hits up the waitress, Lila, to help him. You see, sex is the cure, and every single time the woman in the series comes across a man that is drugged, it’s a one second moral dilema on if they should help or not. But they always do.
Lila is given an expensive watch – so she can find him one day.
Now, I am not shaming anyone. That’s not what I am saying at all. But I am just saying, the man can never remember who they slept with and it’s always a family member who figures it out. This case – it’s Grandma.
Lila gets pregnant and she has her baby. Here’s my second gripe – why is the baby always sick? The child of the encounter is always in the hospital and the mother can never pay for it. We need to talk about insurance here or you know the hospital doing a discount for the person. I have been in enough hospitals in my life that I know how that goes.
True it could be a statement on how the medical system in the United States works and if that is the case, then go off queen. Lila has to come up with ten thousand dollars in order to get her child the treatment that they need. She doesn’t know how to do that and so in the hallway she bumps into a woman with apparently her own secret service detail.
Now, Grandma Vaughn is nice. She’s one of those Grandmas that wants to help with everything that she can. She loves her grandson and wants to see him happy. When Lila bumps into her, she’s sweet about it. When the obvious violation of HIPA happens and she finds out that Lila needs money, she offers it up. Lila doesn’t want anything for free and she trades the watch for the money.
One thing that I can give Vaughn credit for is that he remembers he slept with someone and his feelings for the “girl from the bar” are running through his mind. He’s been searching for her and has been unable to find her. Grandma does the dirty work for him though – not knowing that she was.
Lila ends up moving in with Vaughn and they get to know each other. He’s helping her, she’s helping him – it’s a thing. Now, the two have an undeniable sexual attraction to each other and there is that build up of angst that happens over the series. He wants to be with her, wants to be a good Dad, and wants to balance everything.
Nothing is perfect, but he doesn’t turn away from her at all, because he loves her and he loves their baby. He protects her and tries to show her that he loves her and that he’s serious that he wants to be with her. Lila is hesitant because she’s not okay with who she is.
Lila has a limp from a childhood injury that was never fixed properly. He doesn’t mind it, but she does and he does everything to get it fixed for her because, again, he wants her to be happy.
There is a lot of drama.
Now, is there someone ending up in a hospital? Yes. Is there a bad fake baby doll? Yes. Is there a villian? Yes. But in the end is there a happily ever after? Well, though I would consider that always open to interpretation, but yes.
With all of the cliches that are happening here, you would think that I am going to give this show a bad rating and tell you not to watch it. I actually didn’t think it was bad, and that Kirby Ellwood and Marc Herrmann were great together. Herrman is versatile and can play the good or bad guy and here – he manages to tow the line at times. But the way that he makes Vaughn this character that you don’t like and then do – the way he can switch the conversation around the character is something I found quite interesting.
Ellwood is always a good girl in whatever series that she is in. She is like this character that reminds you that the good girl can get ahead too. It’s also a reminder that not everyone is a gold digger and most people just want to be loved.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- One cliche after another but it works
- Why is it that the stepmother always turns the father against his biological kid
- The stepsister is always evil but one thing I can always admire about them is the belief that they can pull anyone
- We need better titles, cause this one is ridiculous
- There doesn’t need to be so much violence in these
