Virgin River Season 7, Episode 6 ‘No Regrets’ throws an obstacle into Mel and Jack’s journey—a somewhat expected obstacle, but an obstacle nonetheless—while the show continues to drag out the Mike and Brie connection, even though we know what she really wants is to be with Brady.
Then there’s Preacher and Jack, who, for the first time, aren’t seeing eye to eye. It feels like the end of one chapter and the beginning of another, as Mel says about something else. Jack wants his bar to be just what it is; Preacher wants more. Part of it is that they’re at different points in their lives, and the level of investment expansion required isn’t something Jack wants right now. But another part of it is that this is Preacher’s dream, not Jack’s.
Doesn’t mean Preacher shouldn’t go for it. It just means he might have to do so away from Jack.

RUNNING AWAY FROM SOMETHING

Both Brady and Kaia are running away from something as they take the offer to go help with the wildfires. Brady is running away from Brie and from his feelings. He’s tried to be her friend, but that’s not what he wants. He thought it was enough to have her in his life in any way, but the truth is that it’s very hard to be in Brie’s life without being in Brie’s life the way he wants. Especially when he knows she feels the same way about him.
For Kaia, the problem is that she’s always wanted a different life than the one she has in Virgin River. And for so long, being there has meant settling. Not for Preacher, no, but for a life she didn’t want and never dreamed of. Or at least, a life she didn’t think she wanted. That, plus Preacher getting a little too into his mind about what he wants to do going forward, has Kaia reconsidering her place in Virgin River.
Both really need to try this thing called communicating with people. Might work wonders. For now, they’re just going to run into fires to feel something. That part I would not recommend.

BACK TO THE PAST

I know I’m supposed to find the story of Mel’s parents romantic or something, but I just find it tragic. I don’t know why anyone made the decision they made there, but I don’t think it’s fair that they forced Everett to give up everything. Sure, he has Mel in his life now, but those wounds don’t heal. And that’s proven by the fact that he is the only one who really sees the issue with the situation Mel and Jack find themselves in now with Marley and her boyfriend.
And I hate to say it, but I think he’s right. If Marley is going to give up her baby, she has to be sure. They both have to be sure. Because it’s a big decision, and you don’t want to make it because you feel pressured or because you already promised.
If she makes it because she firmly believes, even if she has someone by her side, this isn’t the right time for her to be a mother, then that’s okay. But she needs to decide for herself, without any influence.

I’M DOING THE BEST I CAN

It’s so easy for us from the outside to see that Lizzie is drowning, and it’s honestly so relatable. She’s being pulled in so many different directions, and her hormones are going crazy, and it’s just hard to be able to take a step back. But she really, really has to. For her, and for her baby. Otherwise, it will become impossible to be the kind of mother she really wants to be.
And honestly, this applies to Mel, too. The best she can do now is take a step back—because if this is meant to be, it will be. And if not, well… they’ll find another way. And I know when you’ve lost as much as she has, this is easier said than done. You let yourself hope, and the idea that your hope won’t be rewarded is just so hard to stomach. In a way, it feels like life is against you.
But Mel is going to be a mother, one way or another. I believe that. She wants to be a mother. And this is a TV show, so it makes sense that it will be the next storyline for her, the one that’ll be the linchpin of Season 8. We just gotta hold on to see how it comes together.
