Boston Blue gave us so much in “St. Patrick’s Day.” We got throwbacks to Blue Bloods, which we absolutely loved. We learned how much Sean and Danny love St. Patrick’s Day, but that holidays can be hard when a loved one isn’t here anymore. And we got an update on Lena’s personal life, which was very welcome.

Holidays and Grief
Given the name of the episode, “St. Patrick’s Day”, it wasn’t hard to figure out the focus of the episode. But it was more than just the holiday. It was about why we love holidays: family. Danny and Sean love St. Patrick’s Day because Linda loved it. But holidays are never quite the same after a loved one passes away. And for Sean, missing his mom and being away from the rest of his family hurts.
Jonah understood, but we really appreciated that he still wanted this to be a happy day for him. Jonah was truly a good friend and partner, especially given how much he loathes the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The parade turned out okay in the end anyway, with Sean, Jonah, and the rest of the crowd finding Guinness (a very appropriate name for a dog on St. Patrick’s Day).
Danny also dealt with grief, especially after learning that one of the cartel members was responsible for Linda’s death. But he dealt with it better than we thought he would. Danny has been known to have anger management issues in the past, and seeing the person who killed your wife again? We wouldn’t have blamed him.
But he stayed calm enough to help save the St. Patrick’s Day parade. And Lena was one of the reasons why he was able to stay calm. She talked to him about his holiday traditions, his family, and just checked in to make sure he was okay. And he also helped Lena with her personal life…

Grandpa’s Clothes Dryer Situation?
Danny’s heart was in the right place. It really was. But maybe comparing Lena’s dating life to a washing machine wasn’t the best metaphor. Whatever. It seemed to work, and Lena realized she wasn’t being fair by taking her relationship with Brian slowly.
He needs more, and she can give him more by picking up the pace. And we’re glad that Brian, while he was frustrated and wanted more, waited until Lena was ready. He didn’t push her. That’s a sign of a good man, and we’re glad that Lena has him. And that he has Lena. Because she was definitely worth the wait.

Family Dinner and Other Thoughts
- While St. Patrick’s Day isn’t the Silvers favorite, we love that they tried for Danny and Sean. They made all of their favorite traditional foods at dinner, and they even “drowned the shamrock.” They did all of this because they knew how important this day was to them. And to Linda. It was very touching, and it may or may not have made us shed a tear or two. The Silvers care about Danny and Sean so much.
- Our favorite part of the episode may have been Jaime and Eddie’s baby. We loved seeing a picture of Joey Francis. Now, can we please have a cameo from Jaime? We miss him so much!
- The writers seem to be listening to us by having Sarah work with Lena and Danny more. Danny always seems so impressed by how fast Lena and Sarah can solve things.
- While Sarah does deserve credit for keeping everyone safe at the St. Patrick’s Day parade, we liked that she gave credit to everyone else who helped. That’s a sign of a good leader.
