Sometimes watching a television show makes you mad. It’s not because you know the actors, the writers or anyone involved. It’s because you’re watching it and you think, well they really gave no f**ks and screwed that up. DOC is the show that has made me mad today. It’s the show that has taken for granted the road that it was on and made a hard left that sent me into shock. I turned my head so quick, thinking wow this show wants to snatch my wig and put my behind on the floor.
And so here we are, and while I am glad that Joan is leaving, I am shocked at how she’s going out. I get that she wants to leave her legacy and heart – but man she’s rude about it.
I think that’s the great thing about a show like DOC though. A show like DOC wants you to be invested and remember that doctors are real people. This episode has set the next season up – well at least it has begun to, but also has taken steps to make the viewer wonder about who will be there and what relationships will last.
AMY & JAKE
This is one thing I hate – Jake and Amy telling each other that they’ve changed because of their exes. It’s not a fair thing to say. It’s not a fair thing because they’ve both been changing and growing for awhile, but trying to place the blame on exes and spending time with them is unfair.
Look, last weeks episode – it’s understandable why Michael and Amy feel an intense closeness. It’s also understandable why Jake is upset that he didn’t hear something from Amy. However. I think that while they both are passing a lot of judgement – a part of it being motivated by secrets.
The two of them working together on a case that made them think about themselves as parents, as well seeing that their thought processes are different. It looked like something that they would onto be able to recover from.
Amy and Jake are complicated, but it’s about to be even more complicated.
CHIEF
Lets all remember that Michael had given Joan the power to veto anyone that she doesn’t like to be the new chief. That concession was a lot for the hospital, but he gave it. His terms were generous.
Joan is not really liking anyone that she’s meeting. We should have seen the clues, but it turns out Michael wants to return to the practicing side of medicine and he wants to take over. Yes, you read that right – Michael is going to bee the new chief.
It’s interesting to me that he wants to go back to practicing and that the job that he wants to take is overseeing where Amy is working. I know, I know – he’s been looking for a job and this one fits. It’s kinda impressive that he doesn’t care about the pay cut or the demotion.
I guess saving the people in the woods changed him. I am not sure though – that being near Amy is the right way to go. Even though he technically is near her all the time. I just feel like this is going to be a problem for him.
Even if he doesn’t realize it.
Do I think that Michael will be a good chief? Yes. I do. But I also think that it is bound to cause a lot of drama.
ARTHRITIS
One thing that I love about TJ is that he’s always paying attention. He sees a little boy in a wheelchair by himself and sparks a conversation. He has rheumatoid arthritis. Now, speaking as someone who has that – I felt so bad for this kid, because it is not fun. There are a lot of times where people are overlooked at a hospital, but TJ wasn’t going to let that happen.
I do believe that TJ is one of those doctors that will change peoples lives. He put this little boy at ease. He got Gina to give him help. This poor little boy wanted to be healthy enough for the science fair, which actually is an adoption fair.
Gina and TJ are able to put this little man at ease. He finds faith in TJ and Gina – this little boy. It’s the sweetest thing.
TJ got his surgical residency – he’s going to. be a fabulous doctor and he’s got a great life ahead. I am just worried about how much we’re going to see him in the third season and I don’t want to miss him.
CO-CHIEFS
When it comes to the residents, I thought that Joan was going to pick TJ or Sonya. I didn’t think she would even entertain the idea of Amy. Not because Amy is bad, but more because of proving a point – that she pulls all the strings.
But she did make the choice to have both Amy and Sonya as chief residents. They will handle it together. It will be interesting to see the dynamic that happens between the two of them. Will they argue? Will they fight? I don’t know. But what I do think is that the two have a lot to offer the patients as well as the staff.
Everything is changing and I do believe that it will be good for dynamics to change. I believe that all of the doctors have gone through a lot this season and I do think that it has changed them. However, in changing them, I also believe that a lot stayed the same. They all have to grow to be the doctors that they are meant to be.
I can’t wait to see how all of the changes unfold and the dynamics at the hospital change over the rest of this season and the next one.
