If there is anything that I have learned from verticals it’s to never take a drink from someone or leave a drink unattended AND make sure to never leave a one night stand without exchanging information like you were just in a car accident. You never know what the D may give you and therefore make sure that you are always prepared to never let it escape its responsibility. Baby Wants Her Hockey Daddy is a tale of why these two things are important.
It takes two to tango and bump uglies and all that. We must remember this and the learnings above. There should never be any guilt felt over making sure you’re getting all the info because before you know it – you’re pregnant and shouldering that responsibility while he’s traveling the world and making millions.
Now, one thing I will never understand is how these men don’t have whiskey dick and these women don’t dry up like the Sahara due to the amount of alcohol that has been consumed. Like this is impressive stuff.
But that leads into the second thing I will never understand. Did these characters not learn communication in school? Life could be so different if they learned how to do that little thing. You know – talk. Talking is key here. These characters need to learn how to do just that.
Or attend therapy.
Here I am – in my hockey era and therefore not about to miss a vertical that is about hockey. Baby Wants Her Hockey Daddy stars Jameson Muntz and Shayne Davis. If it wasn’t for the poster, I would have assumed that it was about a woman wanting to bone a hockey star.
I wouldn’t have been too far off, because the character Davis plays is a hockey star that it seems that everyone wants to bone. Alas, I am trying to think of ways to not use the “f” word because algorithms. But if you don’t know what “bone” is – look it up.
Jason Dalton is a hockey star (just imagine that the rink they are in is in a stadium and not the local practice rink) who wins games and breaks heart. After winning the cup, the team goes out for drinks, he runs into Alice and they have a one night stand. No shame there – get yours girl.
But seven years later, she’s got a little girl, has moved to a new town, and Alice is living her life. Well, that is until Jason walks into her clinic and his psycho agent gives her a hard time. His Mom though, she sees Lucy and is convinced that she’s her granddaughter.
If you watch verticals, you should know that DNA tests happen really fast AND grandparents seem to have a radar for detecting a strange kid as their family. Mama Dalton plucked a hair from Lucy and then one from her son. In the speediest DNA test ever, we learn ain’t wrong – Lucy is her granddaughter. Now she’s just gotta find her.
Hiding in plain sight is what we’re dealing with here. Only Lucy and Alice don’t know they are hiding. Alice takes on a job of being Jason’s personal massage therapist and I can’t figure out why. She’s got a stable job, but hey, more money and all of that. It just never seems to happen – no matter how many times that Jason sees Lucy – that Jason realizes that Alice is that girl from seven years ago and Lucy is his.
BUT, he really likes Alice. He’s also listening to his Mom about finding his kid, but lets be real – he ain’t doing nothing. His Mom is though. She’s doing everything that she can to track down Alice and she does just that. The power of a determined Grandma.
Before I move ahead though we need to talk about Jason’s crazy AF agent. She’s certifiable, but also doesn’t seem to have any other clients. Gotta keep that payday, I guess. She’s jealous of Alice and decides that to get to Alice she will punish Lucy. Agent Cray Cray is the worst. She’s locking Lucy into lockers, kidnapping her, and making things miserable for Alice.
Jason is there for her constantly with his bodyguards. I challenge you not to laugh as the all show up ready to fight with their hockey sticks in hand. I fell off my bed laughing quite a few times. He’s making Alice promises about not letting anything happen to her and all that – but he’s failing.
The good thing is Grandma tracks Alice and Lucy down, moving them into a nice place. She gets her son on board and reminds him to be a good Dad. Lucy takes a liking to Jason, but Alice – well she’s keeping her distance. Can’t blame her though – Agent Cray Cray is always putting Lucy in danger.
Jason and Alice are that will they or won’t they – but you know you want them to kind of tension. She’s hesitant, but their sexual attraction is something that no one can deny. These two lack good communication skills – which would have made this all a lot easier. With easier though, we wouldn’t get the gratuitous remove your top so we can all drool over your abs shots.
When you think that they are out, they are all in. As two and two starts to equal four, Jason and Alice realize that they are Lucy’s parents and all this fear that they’ve had of them needing to be with other people wasn’t necessary. They are going to end up together.
And she’s pregnant again.
Good thing is Grandma had enough and made sure that Agent Cray Cray went away away.
Normally I would give Shayne Davis crap and talk about how I can’t handle his acting. But the last few verticals I have seen him in, he’s proved me wrong. I just can’t watch him in Vanderpump Rules, as he’s so douchy there. But here, his character is a caring son, father, and boyfriend. He takes this role and embraces it and reminds us why he’s an in demand vertical actor.
Jameson Muntz as Alice is also a role that I love. Now, I hate to admit that some roles that I have seen her in, also weren’t my favorite. But there is something about this one that makes her feel relatable and also as if she cares about her audience. She plays to her strengths as an actor and her as a Mom – well that is just adorable and believable.
Overall Baby Wants Her Hockey Daddy is a good time. It’s an adventure and a reminder that it’s a small, small world.
