A decade-spanning romance between two men is at the heart of Netflix’s upcoming series Soul Mate.
Starring Hayato Isomura (Alice in Borderland) as Ryu and Ok Taec Yeon (Vincenzo) as Johan, it starts off with Johan rescuing Ryu during a harrowing fire in a foreign country. Ryu inadvertently destroyed the life of his best friend and abandoned everything before running away from Japan. And his whole life changes thanks to Johan, a Korean boxer with his own set of problems.
Both men carry deep scars. And as their lonely souls come together, it soon becomes clear that they are soul mates. As time passes, the threads of fate bind them with “such suffocating tightness” that they decide to live together. And as viewers we follows them across 10 years, multiple countries, and through unforgettable pain, suffering, and ultimately, joy.
In the official trailer for Soul Mate we get to see them meet, mesh their lives together, and provide each other with support through all the phases of their lives. You also get a lot more perspective on Johan, who seems to have a mysterious enemy out to ruin him. And we get to meet parts of their family, showing that Soul Mate is going to be a tapestry worth watching.
