With Prime Video’s Obsessed Fest just weeks away, the excitement is only building. For those who may not have heard of it, Obsessed Fest is an “inaugural summer tentpole event where Prime’s most talked-about titles, talent, and fans come together for a day of programming, first looks, and can’t-miss moments.” It’s an event that will bring fandoms of some of the most popular YA books together. The lineup is stacked with so many book-to-screen adaptations that people are looking forward to. That includes The Last Sunrise.

Based on the book by bestselling author Anna Todd, The Last Sunrise follows 22-year-old Oriah “Ry” Pera, whose life transforms during a summer in Majorca when she meets an infuriatingly charming local named Julián. Between chronic health issues and her mother’s overprotective tendencies, Ry feels like she’s stuck waiting for her life to begin. When her mother’s job relocates them to Majorca, Ry sees this as her chance for a coming-of-age story. As the summer continues, Julián pulls Ry out of her shell and into the adventures she’s always craved. With her return to America looming, Ry must decide if she’s brave enough to follow her heart.
Starring in the adaptation are Maia Reficco as Oriah, Fernando Lindez as Julián, and Eva Longoria as Oriah’s mother, Isolde. When we tell you the cast is perfection, believe us. The trailer is not out, but Obsessed Fest provided a sneak peek at what’s to come. We’re hoping for even more surprises at the event. Especially now that we’re hearing a sequel to the story may be on the horizon.
We loved The Last Sunrise, and as we read it, we couldn’t help but feel there was still more to the story. Fans (It’s me. I’m fans) want to know what happens to the characters they love and care about. Oriah’s story is relatable, and (Spoiler alert) we want to see how she’s still navigating life after her health scare and a major operation. And we want to see how her relationship with Julián progresses.
More: Movie Review: After
According to Deadline, Todd will be releasing another book in the series that Amazon MGM is eyeing for adaptation. This will ultimately be part of a trilogy of books. And we hope films as well. Now, it’s important to mention that the studio has not given the film the green light just yet. But, based on Anna’s track record of great storytelling and the popularity of the angsty films based on her After series, we have faith it will happen.
Screenwriter Anna Klassen, who wrote the script for the first film, will write the script for the second film. In addition to her, all the key creatives involved are returning. Because there hasn’t been official confirmation, there’s a chance an announcement could happen during Obsessed Fest. We believe this is to build excitement leading up to Obsessed Fest. The site appears to indicate that Todd, Reficco, and Lindez will be there. We can’t think of a more perfect moment to share this kind of news. We’re looking forward to whatever updates we can get about The Last Sunrise, and we can’t wait for Obsessed Fest.
The Last Sunrise is set to premiere on Prime Video in August.
