The Elle premiere ended by asking us to believe in Elle Woods even when nobody else in Seattle did. Now, Elle Season 1 Episode 2 ‘No Silly, I Go Here’ takes that idea one step further. This episode it’s about discovering the kind of person Elle wants to be. Even if everyone around her tells her she’s making things worse. The more people insist she should let Donna’s firing go, the more we realize that giving up simply isn’t part of who Elle is, and by the end of the episode, we couldn’t be prouder of her for refusing to stop fighting. Ready?

Elle Refuses to Let Donna’s Story End
The guilt Elle felt at the end of the premiere doesn’t disappear in Elle Season 1 Episode 2 ‘No Silly, I Go Here’ once a new day begins. If anything, it becomes even stronger. She can’t accept that Donna lost her job because of something she said, and unlike everyone else, she isn’t willing to convince herself there’s nothing she can do about it.
Elle is determined to find a way to get Donna’s job back but not everyone sees it that way. Kimberly, of course, is quick to accuse Elle of making herself the center of the story, acting as though she’s trying to become the heroine of a problem that isn’t really hers. At first, Elle doesn’t even understand what Kimberly means. From her perspective, she’s only trying to fix an injustice.
But we love that Elle Season 1 Episode 2 ‘No Silly, I Go Here’ allows Elle to question herself during the book signing. Watching her mother behave as though her own inconvenience matters more than oppressed minorities are experiencing suddenly forces Elle to see what Kimberly was trying to say.
Eva unintentionally makes every conversation about herself, barely stopping to consider how other people feel, and we can see the embarrassment written all over Elle’s face. It’s one of the first times she looks at someone she admires and realizes they aren’t behaving the way she expected. And, for a moment, Elle wonders whether she’s been doing exactly the same thing with Donna.
But she’s not.
In Elle Season 1 Episode 2 ‘No Silly, I Go Here,’ Eva is minimizing other people’s experiences because she’s so caught up in her own disappointment about moving to Seattle. Elle isn’t. She’s trying to make sure Donna gets the ending she deserves. That distinction matters, and the episode makes sure we understand it.
Convinced there has to be a solution for all Donna mess, Elle throws herself into finding one. For a while, it finally feels like she’s made real progress. She believes she’s discovered the argument that will convince Principal Anderson to readmit Donna, and we can’t help sharing a little of her optimism. But, as always, everything falls apart again.
Principal Anderson accused Donna of stole money from the school. WTF?! We don’t believe that lie for a second! Nothing we’ve seen from Donna suggests she’s capable of doing something like that. She’s been warm, generous, patient, and kind from the moment Elle arrived in Seattle. The accusation feels wrong, and Elle Season 1 Episode 2 ‘No Silly, I Go Here’ clearly wants us to question it just as much as Elle does.
So, instead of closing the case, Principal Anderson only makes us more suspicious.
The More People Tell Elle to Walk Away, the More She Proves She Can’t
One of our favorite things about Elle Season 1 Episode 2 ‘No Silly, I Go Here’ is that it doesn’t turn Elle’s determination into something everyone immediately admires. It’s quite the opposite. Almost every important person in her life tells her it’s time to stop. Donna herself doesn’t blame Elle for what happened. She appreciates everything Elle is trying to do, but she also doesn’t want her carrying a guilt that was never hers to begin with.
Liz reacts differently.
Part of her still blames Elle for everything that happened to her mother, and honestly, we can’t blame her for feeling that way. At the same time, she also sees something nobody else seems willing to acknowledge. Elle is fighting for her mother because she believes Donna deserves better. And that changes the way Liz looks at her enough for us to feel the first real cracks beginning to appear in the wall she’s built around herself.
Unfortunately, every new idea Elle comes up with in Elle Season 1 Episode 2 ‘No Silly, I Go Here’ seems to create another problem instead of solving the first one. Every conversation becomes more complicated. Every attempt to help pushes Donna’s situation further away from a solution.
Eventually, even Elle reaches a point where she’s exhausted. For the first time, she seriously considers letting everything go. And Elle almost doesn’t recognize herself because she isn’t someone who walks away because something becomes difficult. And she isn’t someone who stops fighting for people she cares about.
Sol instead of accepting defeat, Elle finds a new determination that feels even stronger than before. Watching her stand back up after being knocked down over and over again is exactly why we love Elle Season 1 Episode 2 ‘No Silly, I Go Here’ so much. We’re proud of Elle because giving up would have been easier, and she refuses to choose the easy option.
Elle Season 1 Episode 2 ‘No Silly, I Go Here’ also gives Elle something she’s been missing since arriving in Seattle: someone who understands her. Shannon is everything Elle hoped she might find when she moved. Their connection feels immediate and effortless in a way very few of Elle’s relationships in Seattle have so far. For the first time, it looks like she’s found someone who sees past everyone’s assumptions and likes her for who she really is.
There’s just one problem. Or two. Shannon is Kimberly’s best friend…and she’s dating Miles.
That hurts so much because Miles always seems to appear exactly when Elle needs someone, and it’s becoming harder and harder to ignore that he seems to be flirting with her just as much as she’s interested in him. But he’s with Shannon. So every possibility Elle imagined disappears. She’s never going to betray a friend.
So yeah, the crush may still be there. But as far as Elle is concerned, Miles is officially off limits. As he should.
Other Thoughts About Elle Season 1 Episode 2
- Donna is Liz’s mother! Now we understand why she took it worse than everyone else. And Liz loves that Elle is trying hard, but at the same time, she just wants her to leave things as they are and not make them worse.
- Dustin and Elle are getting closer. Are they kind of friends? We like it!
- We love that Elle’s friends are always there for her.
- Like Dustin, we feel there’s a lot more to this than just the Principal Anderson… so he’s right to investigate.
- Eva is trying to distract herself from the fact that she had to move to a city she hates, but she’s not dealing with it.
- Kimberly saw Elle and Miles at the ball…and that will surely have consequences.
