Fangirlish Feels of the Week: July 6 – July 12

We watch a lot of TV and movies! So yeah, we’re fangirling over a lot of things! Each week we come together to highlight all the feels they give us throughout the week. On these Fangirlish Feels of the Week, there are five categories and many thoughts! Ready?

Best Scene of the Week

Jasmine: Episode 3×03 of House of the Dragon when Rhaenyra serves all the rich folks the bad food the townspeople had to eat because they had taken everything from them. I especially loved the moment she told them that her soldiers were breaking into their houses and taking EVERYTHING back to redistribute it to the people who actually needed it.

Ashley W.: No spoilers here, but the closing scene in X-Men ‘97 episode 2×04 featuring Professor X, Magneto, and Apocalypse is so sad but so well done!

Rachel: Olivia Wilde’s new comedy The Invite is full of great writing and performances. If I have to choose a moment for this category, though, I’m going with the climactic scene when Penelope Cruz’s Pina confronts Wilde’s Angela and Seth Rogen’s Joe with their crumbling marriage. It’s not malicious but it is emotional. Surprisingly so, given how much the film made me laugh up until that point. The whole film is excellent and this moment is one of many I will be thinking about for a while.

Ship of the Week

9-1-1 -“Mother’s Boy” – Eddie and Buck’s flight back to Los Angeles is cancelled following the National Firefighter Games. Hoping to be home for Hen’s birthday, they decide a cross-country road trip is the fastest way, until they get offtrack and Buck goes missing. THURSDAY, MARCH 12 (8:00-9:00 p.m. EDT) on ABC. Jasmine: Loustat in The Vampire Lestat Episode 1×05. When Lestat left the recording studio after he received Louis’s text asking for help was a reminder that no matter how angry or hurt Lestat is, he will always be there for Louis at a moment’s notice.

Shelby: I don’t know if it necessarily counts because they’re not a canon ship and the show isn’t currently airing. But I’ve been rewatching some 9-1-1 episodes, and I just love any and every reminder that Buck and Eddie are totally meant for each other.

Gissane: Trying is back on Apple TV, which means I’m on my high horse again about why Nikki and Jason have one of the best marriages on TV and how everything we get with them is just so ridiculously wholesome.

Best Performance of the Week

Jasmine: Sheila Atim as Akasha the queen of all vampires in The Vampire Lestat Episode 1×05. The intensity of the moment she wakes after consuming Lestat’s blood was quite something. Her speech could have come off comical and unhinged but it felt more like a realization of the world as she questions everything before her. Then she closes with that self proclamation that she is the one who has the power. There was so much happening in that scene but she was the one I kept my focus on.

Shelby: I’m still in the world of Elle after its first season, and I can’t get over how excellent Lexi Minetree’s performance as Elle Woods is. She just doesn’t disappoint.

Gissane: The entire cast of Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie knocked it out of the park. There’s something so special about each of them and how they embodied the beloved characters in a way that makes the new series just as comforting as the older ones.

Rachel: The quartet of actors that make up the entire cast of The Invite qualify for this category for me. Wilde, Rogen, Cruz, and Norton are all outstanding. Rogen does his best dramatic work ever, Wilde perfectly portrays her character’s specific anxieties, and Cruz and Norton prove why they have so many acting kudos. This film is the kind of project that is all about the performances, and this cast delivered.

Moment that Annoyed Us This Week

Gissane: Can I say the Emmy nominations? I won’t name names or shows or anything of that sort, but I find it deeply frustrating how there’s no limit to how many people can get nominated from a single show and how instead, there are countless other actors who could’ve gotten the recognition instead.

Rachel: When we found out that multiple entertainment companies were trying to buy Letterboxd. I love movies, which means I love that site, and it doesn’t need that kind of change in corporate ownership. Leave my film logging site alone!

Raquel: Gissane said it all! 100% agree with her. Also, I still strongly ship Dustin and Elle from Elle, so I’m increasingly annoyed that the show hasn’t developed the couple well during the season.

Gissane: Charles Ingalls in Little House on the Prairie says, “Dream as big as the sky, then make a plan to get it,” and I’ve been thinking about that all week.
