If you’re on TikTok you’ve probably heard of Stella Lefty. The songstress has a hit song with Boston and is introducing us all to a lot more of her music through TikTok.
We love her music and have known nothing about her. Luckily Rolling Stone sat down with the singer and spoke about her music and how she came to write Boston.
“I thought, ‘I’ll just sit at the piano and see what happens,’” Stella said. “It did so well that I was honestly confused, because I didn’t really love the song yet. Then I was like, ‘I guess I need to finish it!’”
We loved the song and that is in part because Boston is one of our favorite places, but even more so than that – the song is really good.
“I love country music more than anything,” she added. “It’s just what I love with my f**king heart and soul. But I’m not Southern. I always worried, ‘Do I have to be?’”
We never really considered Boston to be country, but maybe that’s just us. Boston feels more indie pop.
The other big thing that we learned is that she is a “nepo baby” of sorts. The singers father is a billionaire. She is the daughter of businessman Eric Lefkofsky, in the top 900 of the worlds richest people according to Forbes. He created one of our favorite websites – Groupon. We’re cheap and like a deal.
Not that who ones parents are should define their kids. Stella talks a lot about her Dad because he introduced her to music. But the singer/songwriter knows that people may think that she has been successful because of her fathers money. Her manager, Adam Alpert has addressed the idea that she is an industry plant.
He said, “Industry plants don’t exist, no matter what anybody says or thinks from the outside of the music business.”
And then continued, “You have to make great songs that people like. All these artists that people call ‘industry plants’ are having success because they’ve done just that.”
We think she’s super talented. Tell us though – who are your favorite artists on Tik Tok. Tell us all the things.
