One thing that we’ve loved about Lucy Hale is that she’s very open. She doesn’t owe the world any answers about anything in her life, but she knows that what she’s gone through in her life and the things that she’s made it through can help others. That’s courage.
In the podcast, On Purpose, which is hosted by Jay Shetty, Hale spoke about when she knew that she had a drinking problem.
Back in 2014 Hale released her album, Road Between, and was invited to perform at the Grand Ole Opry. This was at a point in her life where she was drinking dangerously. She woke up after blacking out.
“I woke up out of a blackout in a hotel room, and later – it was early in the morning – and later that day, I was going to sing at the Grand Ole Opry… I went to rehab instead.” she told Shetty.

“That morning, I called my manager and I said, ‘I’m really scared. I don’t want to stop drinking, but I know I have to stop drinking,” Hale continued. “My manager flew out, took me to rehab, all was kept under wraps. I had to cancel my tour because of drinking, which is why I’ve never really approached music again, which also makes me emotional because I love music, and I loved that time in my life.”
And then said, “But because the music coincided with my issues, it’s taken me a long time to even look at photos of that time or listen to music from that time. And so I’m just now kind of okay even thinking about the idea of singing again.”
Lucy admitting what she’s gone through really does help others. We appreciate her candor and her honesty.
