How Does Blood of My Blood Season 2 Expand the Outlander Story?
One of the most exciting things about Blood of My Blood is also one of its biggest challenges: telling a story that exists within the Outlander universe while exploring parts of that story we haven’t seen before.
Thanks to Outlander, we know where certain characters and events eventually lead, which can provide a roadmap for the story. But Blood of My Blood explore the spaces between the pieces of history we already know. And Season 2 gives the series even more room to play in with that pieces.
So, the show faces the challenge of finding a way to do it without undoing what Outlanderestablished as canon. For Roberts and Davis, that means working with the breadcrumbs that the mother series has already left behind and using them as starting points for new stories.
And that’s something we wanted to hear more about directly from them, particularly when it comes to balancing that expansion with canon.

What Questions Are Matthew B. Roberts and Maril Davis Excited for Fans to Ask?
There is another part of Blood of My Blood that makes this season especially fun for us because, even when we get an answer, it doesn’t mean the questions stop. In fact, Season 2 was teased as beginning with answers while raising even more questions along the way. And if you’ve spent any amount of time around, you already know what that can lead to.
The fandom have never exactly been short on theories, and the mystery surrounding these characters—specially now, with the revelation about Julia—gives us plenty of material to work with.
But, what’s the question Roberts and Davis are most excited for fans to ask? We won’t give away their answer, but let’s just say their response gets right to the heart of what makes a long-running story work. When a season ends, we don’t want to feel like we’ve reached the end of the road. We want to immediately wonder what comes next for these characters.
Also, because after spending so much time with both generations of couples, we had to ask: If they absolutely had to choose, Brian and Ellen or Henry and Julia? Let’s just say that Roberts and Davis were not particularly interested in making that decision.
And honestly? We can’t blame them.
Both couples have their own history, their own challenges, and their own place within the story. Asking the people behind the series to pick a favorite is basically asking them to choose between their children—and their response to the question is every bit as fun as you’d expect.
