The Rookie Season 9 is gearing up!! We already have some details and goodies about it, and we can’t wait to know more! So, if you don’t want to miss anything, here’s everything we know about The Rookie Season 9.
Who Is Returning for The Rookie Season 9?
Fortunately, all of the cast members are returning for The Rookie Season 9! So expected returning main cast members include:
- Nathan Fillion as John Nolan.
- Mekia Cox as Nyla Harper.
- Alyssa Diaz as Angela Lopez.
- Richard T. Jones as Wade Grey.
- Melissa O’Neil as Lucy Chen.
- Eric Winter as Tim Bradford.
- Jenna Dewan as Bailey Nune.
- Shawn Ashmore as Wesley Evers.
- Lisseth Chavez as Celina Juarez.
- Deric Augustine as Miles Penn.
As for the team behind the scenes, there are no changes either. Why change something that works, right? So Alexi Hawley is creator and executive producer. Mark Gordon, Nathan Fillion, Michelle Chapman, Bill Norcross, Brynn Malone, Moira Kirland, Bill Roe and Jon Steinberg are executive producers on the series.
But, in addition to our favorite characters, we have new blood arriving! Troian Bellisario, Dulé Hill and Molly Kunz will guest star in the new season. Bellisario will play Stevie, the new Nolan’s rookie. She’s described as “a single mom going through a difficult divorce who, needing a change, decides to turn to becoming an officer.”
Hill will play Watch Commander Lt. Hughes. He’s described as “thirty-year veteran of the job trying to navigate his new job as Watch Commander while his personal life is in growing turmoil.” Presumably, his role will be to fill the position of Watch Commander while Tim is being held captive. This makes us wonder what will happen once he is rescued—because we know for sure that he will be.
And Kunz will play EMT Quinn. She’s described as “a small town girl determined to become an EMT in Los Angeles.” We don’t know much about her character, but we think she might have something to do with Bailey. After all, she handles emergencies too.

What Will Happen in The Rookie Season 9?
We have a synopsis for the new season! According to it, “John Nolan, once the oldest rookie in the LAPD, now uses his life experience, determination and sense of humor to keep up with rookies 20+ years his junior. John and the team must navigate the intense, unpredictable nature of their jobs and personal challenges, while uplifting the next generation of first responders.”
Also, after Tim and Lucy’s kidnapping just after they got engaged, we know that the Season 9 premiere will pick up with the fallout from that that kidnapping. Thanks to the teaser and trailer released at NYCC, we know the entire team is going to spring into action to rescue Tim and Lucy from Everett’s henchmen.
They know full well that Lucy and Tim would do the same for them, so they don’t care about the danger involved—they aren’t leaving them behind. In fact, Aaron Thorsen is returning home to help with the rescue, and Grey is joining the rest of the team as well. It won’t be easy, but they’ll pull it off. We’re sure of it!
And we hope it happens quickly because, in the meantime, Lucy and Tim are being tortured. Tim is taking a brutal beating and can barely stay on his feet. From what we see in the previews, Lucy’s torture appears to be more psychological than physical.
She’s trapped in an underground pit where she can barely move—something that will surely trigger bad memories of her abduction by that serial killer—and when one of the bad guys tells her Tim is going to die… well, we see in her eyes everything she refuses to let her captors see. It’s a testament to her strength.
So yes, these episodes—plural, since we know the premiere will be a two-part event—won’t be easy for our favorite couple and the team, but they will get through it, together.
