We’re trying to be nice. Truly. Our mothers raised us to find something kind to say, but sometimes entertainment news tests those lessons.
Today’s test? Craig Conover making his acting debut.
Being a reality star doesn’t automatically make someone an actor, and while we respect a career pivot, this particular announcement has us raising an eyebrow.
Conover, who has described himself as a “storyteller” on Southern Charm, will star opposite Nicole Mattox in Charmed by a Southern Monster. The vertical drama premieres Monday, November 9, on the Peacock mobile app.
That title certainly gives us something to work with. We’re choosing restraint.
The story follows Maeve, a brilliant corporate fixer tasked with persuading—and seducing—Hunter, a rumored murderer, into selling his family’s estate. Nothing says straightforward business transaction like seduction and a possible homicide.
But Hunter may be more misunderstood than monstrous. When Maeve discovers he could be the only person capable of protecting her from her dangerous ex-boyfriend, their connection becomes considerably more complicated.
Add family secrets and a billion-dollar development deal, and suddenly everyone has something to lose. Maeve must confront her past while deciding how much she’s willing to risk for love.
On paper, we understand the appeal. A mysterious man, a sprawling estate, dangerous secrets, and a heroine caught between professional obligations and inconvenient feelings? We’ve absolutely watched something for less.
It’s the casting that has us pausing.
Charmed by a Southern Monster is Bravo’s third microdrama and its first scripted entry. That makes Conover an attention-grabbing choice, but whether his reality television presence translates into convincing romantic-lead chemistry remains the question.
We haven’t seen the performance, so we’ll save the verdict. Skepticism, however? We have plenty.
Consider us curious, unconvinced, and waiting to see whether this Southern monster can actually charm us. Though we do admit this is one that we probably won’t ever watch.
