The moment we’ve been waiting for since Blue Bloods ended finally happened: Jamie Reagan returned to our screens! We were so excited to see him reunite with Danny on “Blood Diamonds,” but the reunion didn’t go exactly as planned. At least at first. The brothers definitely have some issues that need to be worked out.
Meanwhile, Lena’s storyline also focused on family as she spent the episode working with her grandpa to solve a mystery. She also helps show him that getting older isn’t a burden; it’s a privilege.
We review Boston Blue Season 2, Episode 5 below!
Happy Family Reunion?

Jamie and Danny’s reunion wasn’t all warm and fuzzy. Jamie’s upset that Danny left without talking to him, and we understand Jamie’s feelings. He’s a new father, and he needs his older brother to lean on. We’re upset that Danny didn’t talk to Jamie about why he left earlier, but we’re also a little confused about why Jamie didn’t tell Danny! If they had just talked, then they could have saved themselves a lot of trouble. But at least they had those conversations in this episode. Better late than never. Jamie does understand why Danny has to stay in Boston: for Sean. We’re also glad that Danny apologized for not talking to Jamie sooner. We’ve mentioned this before, but Danny’s never been great with his emotions. But he is getting better, and this episode proved he is capable of having the hard conversations.
Honestly, we didn’t really care what the case was this week. You could have had Danny and Jamie watching TV together the entire episode, and we would have been thrilled. But it was interesting that the case focused on finding diamonds that were part of a family feud while the two of them were having their own family crisis. Well played, writers, well played. And it was kind of fun watching Jamie push Danny’s buttons about outranking him. And it seemed like Sean liked it, too, considering how he gloated about Jamie giving Danny orders.
The case also brought up some old history with Jamie and Danny losing their brother, Joe. It gave them a way to relate to the brothers about the death of their sister and helped them get to the bottom of the case. It also made Jamie and Danny realize that while they may fight and drive each other crazy, they’re brothers, and they’ll always love each other. And maybe they can use this new fancy thing called a cell phone to call each other every once and a while. Seriously, have they not even talked on the phone since Danny left?
We hope that Jamie visits again soon. And if Jamie, Eddie, and Joey Francis want to move to Boston permanently, we wouldn’t be opposed to that, either. Jamie already fits in at family dinners just fine.
Getting Older

While Danny was busy with Jamie, Lena spent “Blood Diamonds” with Grandpa trying to solve a mystery around Eugene, one of Grandpa’s friends. We’re sick to discover that it was Eugene’s nephew that murdered all of these people. Dennis said he was ending the suffering. No, he was playing God with other people’s lives. It is hard watching someone you love not be able to do things they used to be able to do. It’s especially devastating if they lose their memories. But that doesn’t give Dennis, or anyone else, permission to “end their suffering.”
The case brought out some insecurities for Edwin too. He doesn’t want to be a burden for Mae and his grandkids, and he doesn’t want them to feel stuck with him. Lena assures him that he’s not a burden; he’s a blessing. She’s right. While it is hard watching your loved ones get older, weaker, frailer, it’s also a privilege to care for your family and take care of them. Not everyone gets the extra time with loved ones. We can absolutely tell that Lena thinks it’s a privilege to get to take care of her grandpa for whatever time she has left with him.
While we did miss Lena and Danny working together in Boston Blue Season 2, Episode 5, we appreciated these scenes between Lena and Grandpa Edwin. We don’t usually get a lot of one-on-one time between these two, and they both really shined. We can see just how much these two love each other. They also want the best for each other and what’s best for the family. We hope that we get more scenes with just these two in the future.
Other Thoughts:

- We felt for Sean this week. Yes, the wallet was just a “thing,” but his mom gave it to him, so it was irreplaceable. When you lose a loved one, the things they gave us become very special.
- We agree with Jonah. Delilah is quite literally the worst.
- We’re glad Sean found his wallet. But it was in a dumpster. And, again, we agree with Jonah: please get your wallet off the table. We don’t care how many times you sanitized it.
- “Mae, we’ve got a problem.” “Just one? Banner day.”
- “I left my politeness back in New York.” “I can see Boston hasn’t changed him all that much.”
- “Is Uncle Jamie in charge and was that an order?”
- We appreciate that Seth was willing to change for Sarah but also appreciate that Sarah doesn’t want him to.
- We’re excited Grandpa is going to marry Sarah and Seth. Sarah’s right: the most important thing is family. She doesn’t need a traditional Jewish wedding. She just needs her family.
- “I’m proud of you. As a brother, as a cop and now as a dad.” Awww. Look at Danny letting his emotional side out.
- “And if, hey, you leaving New York was what the Knicks needed to finally get a chip, I think it was worth it.”
