So “Gaia” has come and gone, and Kirk still has Agnes. It looked like the team might finally bring her home this time, but largely thanks to Tom, Agnes is just as far away as ever. When Liz told him not to trace the link to the video that Kirk was allowing them to see Agnes through, he should have listened. I mean did he really think Kirk would be stupid enough to allow them to trace the link? That’s pretty much rule number one of being a villain, don’t let people trace links to your location, and Kirk is way more than your basic bad guy. Then Tom comes back all devastated that the plan didn’t work, and Liz and all the rest of us were just like:
To be fair to Tom for a second, I understand that he felt helpless and needed to take action, but he did it in such a reckless way that it made everything worse. You would think that with all of his years of experience as a spy he would have known that what he was doing was the worst possible decision he could have made. It looks like this is going to put a serious strain on Liz and Tom’s relationship, considering the stress it was already under from losing Agnes in the first place. If we go off of Liz’s reaction to Tom going behind her back and his plan failing alone, there’s some very rocky waters ahead for these two.
Tom and Liz weren’t the only ones with drama in this episode. The tension between Aram and Samar finally reached a boiling point. You can only give someone the cold shoulder and treat them like dirt for so long before they have enough, and Aram finally had enough. Aram is the sweetest person there is. He’s never done anything to anyone, and he tries to make people feel better whenever he can. I understand Samar is hurt, but that didn’t give her the right to treat Aram the way she did. I for one was extremely proud of Aram for sticking up for himself.
“You know when I congratulated you on submitting your transfer request? I didn’t mean it. I was trying to make you feel better because that’s the polite thing to do, and I like being polite. But what I wanted to say was that I’m glad you’re going. As far as I’m concerned, you can’t go fast enough.”
Yes, I was proud of Aram, but I am not at all happy that this is what Samar has been reduced too. She is a strong and compassionate independent woman, and to have her acting this way just because of Aram is really disappointing. I hope the writers fix what they’ve done with her character and give her a redemption arc after this, because having her act this childish is borderline insulting.
Perhaps the biggest development of the episode was that we finally found out what happened to Mr. Kaplan, and it does not look good. Personally I thought it was a little weird right off the bat that the man who found her didn’t take her to a hospital but instead took her to his cabin. When Kaplan woke up, the man started talking to her and I was seriously creeped out. There was just something really off about it him, and now we know that that nagging creepy feeling was completely warranted. Kaplan attempts to get up and off the bed and discovers that her leg is chained to the wall.
Now would be a great time for Red to redeem himself by bursting in and saving her from this psychopath. He sure is taking his sweet time checking on her.
And Liz only asked once what happened to her after everything she had done for them? She betrayed Red and almost lost her life to help them, and they’re too busy thinking about their own problems to even bother following up with Red on what happened.
As if she hasn’t been through enough by being shot in the head now she has to deal with being kidnapped.
The only relief that came in this episode was at the very end when Liz and Red were finally starting to make up.
I don’t ship Lizzington, but this was a touching moment.
It’s definitely not time for Red to forgive her yet after everything she did, but I’m glad their relationship is starting to heal. They work best as a team.
It looks like we’re in for an intense episode next week. The promo shows us that Red’s plan to rescue Agnes is a trap, and Liz finally does a DNA test to determine who her father is (sounds like it’s not Kirk). This whole revelation could put another wrench in Red and Liz’s relationship, just as it was starting to heal.
Here’s the action packed trailer.
