If you’ve seen Girls Trip, then you know Regina Hall. She’s a phenomenal actress, who we loved in Barbershop and Black-ish, as well as Girls Trip (which if you haven’t seen – you need to. It’s amazing) and now we get to see her in an adaptation that we can’t wait for.
The actress has signed on for an important role in the adaptation of Angie Thomas’ book, The Hate U Give. She will be playing Starr’s (Amandla Stenberg) mom.
If you aren’t familiar with the book, “The story follows a16-year-old girl named Starr who grew up in a poverty-stricken slum, but now attends a suburban prep school. After she witnesses a police officer shoot her unarmed best friend, she’s torn between her two very different worlds as she tries to speak her truth.”
Previously announced was the casting of Russell Hornsby as Starr’s fathers and Lamar Johnson as Starr’s brother, Seven.
The book was optioned by Fox 2000, Temple Hill, and State Street in 2016. It is currently in pre-production and will be directed by George Tillman.
There is no release date set for the film yet, but we will be sure to let you know when we find out what it is.
