NBC handed out series pickups today to four new series, two dramas, Midnight, Texas and Timeless, as well as two comedies, Great News and Marlon.
Timeless is described as an action-adventure series, in which a mysterious criminal (Goran Visnjic) steals a state-of-the-art time machine, intent on destroying America as we know it, by, you guessed it, changing the past. The only hope to stop him is an unexpected team made up of a soldier (Matt Lanter), a scientist (Malcolm Barrett) and a history professor (Abigail Spencer), who must use the machine’s prototype and find a way to travel back in time and stop the villain without compromising the future themselves.
Midnight, Texas is based on the New York Times best-selling trilogy from Charlaine Harris (True Blood). It’s described as Twin Peaks meets True Blood and it’s set in Midnight, Texas, a remote town where your neighbor could be a vampire, a werewolf, a witch, or even an angel.
Marlon is loosely inspired by Marlon Wayans’ life and it centers on an immature but loving father (Wayans) committed to successfully co-parenting with his very put-together ex-wife.
Finally, Great News is inspired by the life of Tracey Wigfield. It’s described as follows: Getting along with some colleagues can be rough, but working with your mom? That’s a whole other story. When Katie (Briga Heelan), an up-and-coming news producer, finds out her overbearing mom (Andrea Martin) has rejoined the workforce as an intern at the station where Katie works, it might just be the worst news ever. But, with her biggest cheerleader at her side, Katie might finally get the recognition she deserves.
