Fourth Time’s the Charm: Glory Days Release
Little Mix’s fourth studio album, “Glory Days” was released on November 18, 2016. The album was a smash success in the UK right from the beginning. “Glory Days” headed straight to the top of the UK Billboard charts with 96,000 combined units, the highest opening tally for a British girl group since the Spice Girls sold 192,000 copies of “Spiceworld” in 1997. With every new album the group hones their sound and “Glory Days” definitely put them on the map in 2016!
Shout Out to My Ex
The first single off of “Glory Days” and a huge hit for Little Mix. They debuted the song on the X-Factor UK in October 2016 and from then on it has spelled major success for the group. Written by Little Mix and other collaborates, the song no doubt chronicles Perrie’s messy breakup with ex-One Direction member Zayn and is a perfect anthem for saying goodbye to that ex-significant other. Billboard even named the song one of the Best 100 Pop Songs of 2016. Little Mix has performed the song in numerous places and has even given us an acoustic version.
Little Mix: Our World
In 2016, the girls also released a book “Our World.” The book chronicles the bands formation in 2011 on the X-Factor and everything they’ve accomplished up to this point. Jade, Perrie, Leigh-Anne and Jesy tells us about the highs of performing in some of the biggest arenas in the world, but also the low points. The book gives you an inside look at some behind the scenes photos and just stories from the girls. If you didn’t love them already, 2016 proves they’re more than a girl group, they are sisters.
Secret Love Song
Before “Glory Days” became the success that it is, Little Mix spent the early part of 2016 celebrating their third studio album, “Get Weird.” While the album was released in 2015, during the early months of 2016 Little Mix was promoting several songs. One of these was “Secret Love Songs.” A bit of a departure from the pop music Little Mix was usually associated with “Secret Love Songs” is a ballad and shows off each of their voices tremendously. They also collaborated with Jason Derulo for this hit.
Hair
Another single off of “Get Weird,” Little Mix enjoyed sweeping success with this upbeat, pop classic. While the single for “Hair” was released at the end of 2015, the song re-entered the UK charts in April 2016 following the re-release of the song featuring Sean Paul. “Hair” is another example of a killer music video from Little Mix and it’s yet another thing to celebrate. Overall, Little Mix dominated the music video game in 2016.
Tour Diaries
Little Mix’s “Get Weird” tour in the UK just looked like tons of fun, but if you couldn’t make it across the pond, they had you covered! Their tour diaries documenting life on the road were enough to give you a little taste of their road life. Spoiler alert, it’s just five minutes of them being adorable!
Their Acoustic Game Hit An All-Time High
Anyone who’s a fan of Little Mix knows that their acoustic and acapella game is seriously strong. If you aren’t sure how talented they are just listen to them sing any song acapella or acoustic, it will blow you away. In 2016, they gave us some seriously amazing acoustic performances. From “Shout Out to My Ex” to “Touch,” they upped their game and proved how talented we already knew they were. Even Jade couldn’t deny Leigh-Anne’s epic talent in this “Touch” performance above!
Everyone Shout Out to Their Ex’s, Little Mix is Listening
Little Mix knows how to include their fans, they always have, but this year they cooked up something extra special to include everyone. Along with their single “Shout Out to My Ex,” the hit girl group set up hotlines where people could call and give a shout out to their ex’s. It’s brilliant! The girls are classy and care about fan engagement and it’s just another reason why they ruled 2016!
Oops and Touch on X-Factor’s Finale
Little Mix closed out the year with a truly amazing performance on the X-Factor finale on December 12, 2016. The girls returned to the stage on the very anniversary they won the X-Factor back in 2011. They’ve grown exponentially and this performance is perfect proof of that. Accompanied by Charlie Puth, they debuted “Oops” and then launched into a fierce rendition of “Touch,” their next single from “Glory Days.” Watch in amazement!
And Of Course, They Continued to Have Fun!
2016 also brought some more fun and smiles from Little Mix. From their tour in the UK to their Glory Days Road Trip, Little Mix brought a little extra love everywhere they went and we can’t wait to see what they’ll give us in 2017! Thank you Little Mix, we love you!
