It’s hard to see our idols leave us, and today, we’re sad to report that Carrie Fisher has indeed left. She was 60 years old.
Family spokesman Simon Halls released a statement to PEOPLE on behalf of Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd:
“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” the statement reads.
“She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly,” her daughter continues. “Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
Fisher was flying from London to LA on Friday, December 23rd, when she went into cardiac arrest on the flight. Paramedics rushed her to the hospital, where she was reported to be in stable condition until the news this morning.
Best known for her role in the Star Wars saga, Fisher was also a well-known writer.
Rest in peace, Carrie. We’ll miss you. May the Force be with you, always.
