Well, Once Upon A Time season 7 is not so much of a mystery anymore. The question is – do you like what you’re hearing? And that seems to be a very personal answer for a lot of fans.
But, to help you decide, we’re going to recap the most important information we learned about the Season 7 reboot at D23, and then you can make up your mind, or just remain eternally undecided, like us. Either is fine.
To recap, all we knew after the finale was that all the characters, and we do mean all, got a happy ending, and then, for some reason, years later, a girl named Lucy knocked on a door and introduced herself to her father …aka adult Henry, while telling him: “Your family needs you.”
After that, ABC confirmed at Upfronts that Hook, the Evil Queen and Rumplestiltskin — played by returning series regulars Colin O’Donoghue, Lana Parrilla and Robert Carlyle — “return with new identities in a new city, facing a new curse.”
We hadn’t heard much after that, except, of course – the new casting announcements.
But, we know more after D23, so let’s recap:
- Departing series regulars – other than Morrison, slated to return for at least one episode – will return. “I would be disappointed if we didn’t” have them back Kitsis said, to which Horowitz added, “That means yes.”
- The happy endings won’t be ruined! Kitsis emphasized that they’re “not interested in erasing those six years or [making] people feel like they wasted six years.”
- Dania Ramirez is playing a “new” version of Cinderella, aka another Cinderella from another version of the book – and yes, she’s Henry’s wife and the mother of Lucy!
- Might there be a little pirate princess and prince running around? Kitsis teased “We can’t say whether or not [Emma and Hook] have a child, but we can tell you we will answer that question in the beginning of the season,”
- There will be no new love interest for Hook, though his circumstances will be further explained in episode 2. “I think that Emma is absolutely Hook’s soulmate, as we saw,” Kitsis said. “The Hook that we all know and love, his eyes are only for Emma,” added Horowitz: “How could he look elsewhere?”
