We honestly didn’t think we would make it this far. After over a year, we are FINALLY getting Outlander season 3. It’s been quite a Droughtlander indeed, but we can assure you the wait is well worth it.
As a devoted book lover, I’ve been waiting on the edge of my seat for Outlander to hit books 3 and 4 of Diana Gabaldon’s beloved series. Some of my favorite moments are packed in during this time. I’m so ready to see “Voyager” come to life on screen as Outlander season 3 sets sail.
Before the season 3 premiere on Sunday (at 8/7c on Starz, in case you didn’t have it circled and arrowed on your calendar. And as an alert on your phone like myself), I’ve rounded up the top 5 things I’m hoping for in season 3!
Now, while I’ve read the books, this is book spoiler free. I won’t get specific, just in case there are those few non book readers lingering or you’re just getting around to reading “Voyager” now (and to that I say, you had all summer, you’re really cutting it close). I can assure you, I hate spoilers more than anything.
So, here we are, the top 5 things we want for Outlander season 3!
1. The Print Shop Scene to Blow Us Away
Even if you haven’t read the books, you’ve surely heard of the illusive “print shop scene.” It’s something everyone’s been talking about. While I don’t want to give away details (because you need to experience it to believe it), the print shop scene is one of the biggest moments in the series. I’m excited to see it come to life on the TV series, because I’ve re-read the scene more times than we can count. If I’m being honest, I’m crying over the scene just writing this paragraph and thinking about Heughan and Balfe bringing it to life.
2. Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin Emerging As The Leading Actors We Know Them To Be
I might be biased because Brianna and Roger are my two favorite book characters EVER, but I’m so ready to see them in season 3. Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin already emerged as fan favorite at the end of season 2, but now we get a full season with them. “Voyager” features more Brianna and Roger as they help Claire try to get back to Jamie. We also get to see a little bit of Brianna growing up in Boston.
This season is perfect to have Sophie and Richard emerge as the leading actors we know them to be. Besides Jamie and Claire, Brianna and Roger are the other major relationship in Outlander and we couldn’t be more thrilled that they’re finally coming to TV. If SDCC 2017 was an indication, Sophie and Richard are ready to take the world of Outlander by storm.
3. Strong Women At The Forefront
While we absolutley adore Jamie, Roger, Fergus and heck, even Frank, we’re excited for the women to continue to shine on Outlander. With Balfe leading the charge by portraying one of the fiercest, strongest female characters ever written, Outlander is already giving us some stellar female representation. In season 3, we’ve got Brianna, who takes after her mother, and other female characters like Marsali (Lauren Lyle), so this is the perfect time to see some women kick butt.
4. Just Jamie and Claire Being Adorable 24/7
We wish for this every season, but it’s just something we love to see. When we last saw Jamie and Claire, Jamie was sending Claire back through the stones to Frank. They are separated by time, but that can’t stop our favorite OTP from finding each other again. We can’t wait to see all the ups and downs these two go through this season. Balfe and Heughan are the perfect duo and bring Claire and Jamie to life in the best way imaginable. We need more adorable Jamie and Claire and we need it now.
5. For this series TO FINALLY GET THE AWARD SHOW LOVE IT SO CLEARLY DESERVES
Sorry for screaming there, I’m VERY passionate about this last wish. In fact, if I were granted three TV-related wishes from a magical genie I would wish for Glenn to return on The Walking Dead, for Sophia Bush to get a new series ASAP and for Outlander to win an Emmy Award.
For the last two seasons, Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan and Tobias Menzies have poured their heart into the series. They’ve given us performances that make us weep, make us smile and make us cringe. While Balfe has deservedly been recognized with a Golden Globe nomination, it’s high time the entire award landscape recognizes everyone on Outlander. We think season 3 is the perfect time for this dream to come true. Season 3 is bigger, bolder and features some breathtaking storylines. Our bodies aren’t ready, but award season should be!
