When it comes to riding a bike, it’s something that should come second nature and is easy to do. Well, in the first clip from Fox’s The Darkest Minds, our protagonist Ruby Daly (Amandla Stenberg) discovers that driving a van — in the following circumstances — isn’t that.
The Darkest Minds will live or die based on the dynamic between the core four characters: Ruby, Liam (Harris Dickinson), Zu (Miya Cech), and Chubs (Skylan Brooks), as it’s the driving force behind the entire story. While The Darkest Minds presents a corrupt society that’s more reality than dystopia, it’s basically a road trip story where you see the dynamic between these four children.
In this first clip from the film (out Aug. 3), we get a glimpse of that dynamic in action as these four beloved characters are trying to flee a bounty hunter named Lady Jane. If this clip is any indication, the foursome that made the books so beloved look to be the heart of this film.
The Darkest Minds hits theaters on Aug. 3.
