Perhaps one of the more pleasant surprises on The Flash last season was the integration of Cecile Horton into Team Flash. No longer was she the District Attorney that Team Flash had to keep tight-lipped around, she became a part of the family with her relationship with Joe and the baby on the way.
Aside from wanting Joe to “put a ring on it,” Danielle Nicolet is eager to explore the reality of Cecile and Joe’s situation now that they’re new (again) parents with very important jobs and everything that comes with balancing the two.
“I’d really like to explore what the other side of Cecile’s life is going to look like now,” Nicolet told us during a roundtable interview at San Diego Comic-Con. “She’s going to have to go back to work. And being the District Attorney and raising a newborn, not to like get too serious about it, but women do that all the time. They have babies and then they go back to work because they have important jobs that matter and they juggle it.”
With The Flash, family has always been a prominent theme throughout. And Cecile has certainly added to that family dynamic in season 4 and now headed into season 5. Certainly she has a newborn that she brought into the mix, but it’s also her relationship with Joe and how that shows everyone that “you can be happy and save the world” that’s been incredibly important.
“I feel like Cecile has really come in and given Joe a little nudge that what matters is love and what matters is seeking happiness,” Nicolet said. “He’s got a whole life ahead of him. He’s not just a cop. And he doesn’t have to just worry about Barry and Iris. Joe can live, too. I think Joe living has made all of the rest of the team – it sort of spread energetically. It’s okay to be happy. You can be happy and save the world.”
Watch our interview with Nicolet below, where she discusses who would be the best babysitter on Team Flash, the origin behind Cecile’s powers last season, Cecile and Harry, and more.
The Flash season 5 premieres Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 8/7c on The CW.
