Boring. That’s what The Walking Dead‘s midseason premiere titled “Adaptation” was. Boring with a side of, “Is this really happening?” and “Is the hour over already?” And dear god was I grateful when the hour ended.
Maybe it’s the fact that Andrew Lincoln is gone. Sure, he’s going to be in 3 AMC The Walking Dead movies. But the fact of the matter is that he’s gone and Rick is not around. Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie, isn’t around either. The Walking Dead behind the scenes wouldn’t work with her on money and didn’t value her contribution to the show. So she bounced too.
And now we have Danai Gurira riding off into the sunset when season 10 comes around because she’s got star power and who am I to judge her if she wants to spread her wings and fly? Hurts, absolutely. But I understand even though my #Richonne heart does not. Woman’s gotta do, what a woman’s got to do.
I feel like I already lost this show and that they should’ve ended it ages ago. Cuz right now I don’t care about Alpha or her merry band of zombie face wearing weirdos that have a complex that makes them think they’re the bees knees. I don’t care how the storylines that were meant for Carl are now being shifted between Judith and Henry. And I really don’t care about the Sanctuary, Hilltop, or Alexandria.
This doesn’t feel like The Walking Dead that I know and have loved for years. And it’s not because of Angela Kang, the new showrunner. SHE is the bees knees and I’m over the moon that she is in this position of power. But I think The Walking Dead was handed over to her when the “people in charge” knew that viewers & actors would taper off and the good ol’ days were gone and over.
And I fucking hate. And I think Angel Kang deserves better. And I think we do too.
So, here’s to next week’s The Walking Dead. Let it not be as boring as this one!
