Next week, the biggest pop culture convention on Earth touches down in San Diego. Fans across the world are looking forward to the plethora of TV and movie news that’s sure to drop there — us included! So while we all wait in anticipation for the annual festivities to kick off, here’s a quick preview into everything exciting that’s coming to San Diego Comic Con this year.
The Next Phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe
It’s probably no surprise to anyone that Marvel’s panel at SDCC is one of the most anticipated. With Endgame and Far From Home providing a definitive finale to the Infinity Saga, Phase 4 of the MCU remains a giant question mark. Kevin Feige is rumored to be announcing Marvel’s upcoming film slate at the Marvel panel on Saturday, July 20 — a slate that’s likely to include projects such as The Eternals, Shang-Chi, Doctor Strange 2, and Black Panther 2. Fingers crossed the panel also includes a trailer for the upcoming Black Widow movie!
The Rise of Skywalker
While Disney is rolling out a giant Marvel panel at SDCC this year, it’s possible they’ll also transport Comic Con audiences to a galaxy far, far, away. Since the most recent trailer for Rise of Skywalker screened at the 2019 Star Wars Celebration in April, it’s unlikely we’ll see new footage, but rumor has it that a panel about the movie is in the cards.
A Farewell to Supernatural
Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins announced this year that season 15 would be Supernatural’s last (news we’re still not over). The Supernatural panel at SDCC 2019 is probably going to function as a bittersweet farewell to the show, something that every member of the #SPNFamily will be able to appreciate even if it makes them break down in tears.
Batwoman, Arrow-verse, and DC Universe
The pilot from the upcoming Batwoman series is expected to be shown on Saturday morning of this year’s Comic Con, and we couldn’t be more excited to see Kate Kane in action for the first time! Other Arrow-verse shows, including Arrow, Supergirl, and The Flash, will likely be getting panels as well. And for DC fans still craving more content, the DC Universe panel on Saturday night is sure to unveil more footage from the upcoming Harley Quinn animated series.
Netflix and HBO
Both Netflix and HBO have exciting new content to promote at SDCC this year. From Netflix, we’re getting panels on both of their upcoming fantasy series, The Witcher and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance on Friday. HBO will present a panel and a first look at season 3 of Westworld, as well as hold a celebration for Game of Thrones, the show that just had its, uh, “best season ever.”
Star Trek
The one and only Sir Patrick Stewart will be appearing at a panel for Star Trek: Picard on Saturday! Hopefully CBS will treat us to footage from the highly anticipated show, in which Stewart reprises his role as Jean-Luc Picard. Star Trek: Discovery and the recently announced Star Trek: Lower Decks will also make appearances.
Lots of James McAvoy
Speaking of Patrick Stewart, his fellow Professor X and world-renowned Scottish dreamboat James McAvoy will be featured heavily at SDCC this year. He’ll be attending a panel for his upcoming HBO series, His Dark Materials, on Thursday and perhaps also making an appearance at Wednesday’s ScareDiego event to promote It: Chapter Two.
There you have it — a brief preview into what’s coming to SDCC this year! We couldn’t be more excited for all of the new footage, celebrities, and trailers that we’ll get to see in San Diego next week.
