Jane the Virgin may be ending, but that just means that there is the chance to see the cast in other projects and we’re okay with that.
Gina Rodriguez has a new role coming up. The actress will be playing the President of The United States.
The actress will take on the lead role for Diary of a Female President, for the upcoming Disney+ streaming service. She will also be executive producing.
The series was ordered in January for 10 episodes. The series follows a 12 year old Cuban American, as she narrates via her diary about her life, the ups and downs of middle school, and her ultimately her journey to becoming President of the United States. The girls name is Elena.
Rodriguez will play Elena, the title character, who is currently on the campaign trail.
She will also direct the first episode.
In addition to Rodriguez, Charlie Bushnell has been cast as Bobby, Elena’s older brother; Selenis Leyva (Orange Is the New Black) as Gabi, Elena and Bobby’s mom; and Michael Weaver (Here and Now).
The show will launch in 2020. Disney+, well that’s around the corner, November 12th.
