There’ll be there for us …just not from the start.
As expected, HBO Max has announced that the special, which was supposed to be available when the service launched in May, will not be completed in time. No date has been given for a possible future release.
We’ve already discussed before how productions had to halt filming because of the coronavirus pandemic, so this comes as no surprise. All 236 episodes of Friends, however, will be available in May, when the service drops.
The special will reunite original stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer and will not be a new episode, but a look back at the series from the eyes of its protagonists. It will be filmed on the Friends‘ original sound-stage on the Warner Bros. Studio lot in California, and is also set to feature behind-the-scenes footage from the show’s run.
The HBO Max service, which will feature its own slate of original series, will cost $14.99 per month.
