John Oliver is known for one thing: presenting an argument in a simple, yet fact-based manner, and this week was no different. But this week, with protests building over the country and the eyes of the world on police brutality directed at the Black Community, there was only one argument Oliver could make.
To his credit, he went for it.
And, in the process he dismantled every right-wing talking point about the police, what it means to defund it and what, exactly, could come after.
It’s a long video, we know, but it’s absolutely worth watching. If, like us, you’ve heard the phrase ‘defund the police’ thrown around the past week and have been unable to understand how that would look like, why it makes sense and what comes after, this is a must-watch.
