Apparently 2020 is the year of the super-freaky, mind-bendy, what the fuck did I just watch movie. You would think that with the current state of the world we would not be interested in movies like this when we are basically living in what feels like our own. The thing is, movies help us escape our own reality, if only for a little while. Jamie Dornan and Anthony Mackie’s new film Synchronic looks like we will definitely be doing just that.
Read the synopsis below:
Two New Orleans paramedics’ lives are ripped apart after they encounter a series of horrific deaths linked to a designer drug with bizarre, otherworldly effects.
“A designer drug with bizarre, otherworldly effects.” That is putting it mildly. Don’t believe me? Take a look at the trailer for yourself.
I am freaked the hell out after watching this trailer but, Jamie Dornan and Anthony Mackie are in it, so you know I’m watching because that’s a double dose of sexy right there. From the moment the trailer began, my eyes were glued to the screen, yes part of it was because of Jamie and Anthony, #sorrynotsorry but, it was mainly because there were so many visuals I couldn’t keep up. Add the music and that only heightened the tension. If the trailer is any indication, this is going to be a very wild ride.
As of right now, Synchronic is set to be released in movie theatres and the Drive-in but, the directors Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson have said themselves they don’t support people setting foot inside of an actual theatre to watch because we are still dealing with COVID-19. As we all know, indoor theatres are still pretty risky.
They do however support the drive-in option. I have been waiting since last year to be able to see this film, so I really hope it either hits a drive-in near me or VOD at some point. I am going to be honest; it sucks that with all of this going on, it’s not hitting VOD at the same time considering so many of us are still not out of the woods with this pandemic. I will be keeping my eyes open though.
Synchronic hits theaters and Drive-ins on October 23rd.
