Still on the fence about Amazon Prime’s new series Utopia? Fangirlish has you covered with 5 spoiler-free reasons you should be watching! From Sasha Lane and her BDE to Rainn Wilson breaking away from his best known role, this show was chock-full of talent. It also had a mystery, a comic that everyone was after, that unfolded in unexpected and violent ways. Sounds like something you’d be interested in? Read on for more about Utopia below!
1. Sasha Lane and her BDE.
Love or hate Jessica Hyde, she gets shit done and has an endgame in mind from the very start of Utopia. To play such a badass character, an extraordinary actress had to be brought on. That’s where Sasha Lane comes in. Best known for American Honey and the newest Hellboy, Lane has conquered multiple genres. Utopia is another win for Lane as her character Jessica Hyde gets to do, say, and act in ways that women aren’t allowed to because we’re either supposed to be dainty or closed off. No middle ground. Jessica Hyde is that middle ground and we love her and her BDE.
2. The unexpected everything.
From start to finish, Utopia is wild. Most of the time with shows like this you think that you know what’s going on. The reality is that you have no idea what’s happening, what’s next, or who will die next. On that note, people die on this show. Left and right, all the time. So get attached. But know that they can disappear at any time, never to be seen again, because the world they live in feels real and like in reality can be cut short in a moment’s notice.
3. The illustrations in the comic.
Amazon needs to get on it when it comes to printing the pages of Utopia for fans. And it’s not because we’re about to go on a rampage ourselves to get our hands on the illustrious comic. It’s because everything is so beautifully done in this macabre rendition of the events of Utopia that we wouldn’t mind getting to know more about it. Imagine the secrets its pages hold and how much fun it would be for fans to follow along with the show? We’re down!
4. The fandom of it all.
Utopia takes a hard look at fandom and goes, “What if?” What if all the things you’ve been obsessing about are real? What if you become part of it? What if you could change the story for the better? And it asks these questions in a way that feels real, honest, and like something we’ve all come across in our time as fans.
5. Dwight….I mean Rainn being the best…
Rainn Wilson is a talented actor. And at the beginning of it all, it was hard to see him as anything else but Dwight Schrute. With time, he surpassed that and became something more than assistant to the regional manager. He became one of the characters we were cheering on to make it out of this crazy adventure alive. Keeping that in mind, it was fun to use some of Dwight’s life lessons to solve mysteries on Utopia. Seems like Rainn can’t fully shake off Dwight.
Utopia is available on Amazon Prime.
