The Bridgerton trailer has finally dropped, and we’ve only watched it about 100 times. Is it December yet?
Honestly, we’ve been looking forward to this show all year, and the trailer did not disappoint. This show is exactly what we need to boost our spirits this year.
Here are seven things we can’t stop thinking about from the trailer.
Lady Whistledown
Look, we knew that Julie Andrews would be the narrator for our favorite society gossip rag writer. But hearing it was a whole different experience. As readers of the series, seeing a Lady Whistledown paper in the hands of our characters filled us with delight.
We cannot wait to hear her spill the tea on all the juicy scandals.
Sexy Society
Those society men were looking mighty fine in that trailer, and so were the ladies! Regé-Jean Page looked absolutely swoonworthy as Simon. Did you catch that noble eyebrow arch of his? We’re going to need a bag to breath into when we get to see this show in all it’s glory, based on our reaction to the trailer. Not to mention seeing the sparks fly between him and Daphne – it’s going to be be hot.
TV-MA
Speaking of hot, the Bridgerton trailer reminded us that this show will be NSFW. We caught a glimpse of a few couples romping in the bedroom. Yes, give us those scandals, Lady Whistledown! We are ready for them!
Not to downplay the power of Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy in a white shirt, but this is not going to be a PG period piece. We won’t be watching it with our conservative grandmothers, that’s for sure.
Diversity
We knew going into this that it would be a diverse cast. Seeing biracial couples dancing at a society ball, and a woman of color as queen filled our hearts with joy. And it’s not just the main cast that is diverse. The Bridgerton trailer showed us that the entire setting of this show is filled with background characters that look more like the world we know than the one period pieces have always been trying to sell us. And we are here for it.
And yes, that was a gay couple making out in bed. Who were they? We need answers!
Penelope Featherington
Look, Penelope is the best character in the book series, and we will not be accepting any arguments on that subject. Seeing our girl in the Bridgerton trailer being a wallflower and watching the dancers wistfully made us want to give her a big hug. And tell her that things will get better.
And the costume designers absolutely nailed her look – her mother does indeed put her in colorful gowns that do her no favors. We cannot wait to see the first part of her story in this season, although we suspect the rest will be in a season 2 if we get it.
Costumes and Set
Besides just Penelope’s look, all the costumes and set pieces in the Bridgerton trailer have us thirsting for more. They went all out with the design on this one, bringing us a period piece with a modern feel to it. We cannot wait to see them again in all their glory.
And don’t even get us started about the lighting and set design for those grand society balls. They look spectacular.
The Romance
Look, we’ve said it before and we’ll say it again. With 2020 being the shit show that it is, we need some happily ever afters. And judging from the tone of the Bridgerton trailer, we will see some society ladies snagging themselves some husbands by the end of the season.
