Let me be the one to say this is the best episode Britannia has done in about two seasons, which surely means the season finale will be a disappointment, because absolutely anything interesting they could have thrown at us happened in this hour, but hey, one more hour till I’m free, so I’m not about to complain about that hour being somewhat decent.
Of course, for this show to be somewhat interesting they have to kill someone, and I mean, I guess of all the people they could kill I could see Mallin having some future use that might make it a bad idea to kill him now, but since when has Britannia cared about things like common sense?
They obviously had to have him and Cait get intimate before his death, because this nonsensical show filled with violence hasn’t had enough sex for the Game of Thrones style it thinks it has, so …yeah. Sex and pain, you’re now old enough for it, Cait!
I mean, presumably you were already old enough for it when Divis was thinking about sex with you a few episodes back, so…

The show is probably counting on this making me care more for Cait, because of course, pain always serves that purpose, but even in that the show sucks. I didn’t even care much for Mallin as he was being killed, so I can’t exactly find it in me to care about the person finding him dead.
Episode 9 was however, more interesting than previous episodes, I will give it that. The show has always had the promise of being better than it could have been, which is one of the things that has annoyed me so much about it. The idea could have been turned into something not just interesting, but powerful, and instead they just found every cliché in the book, and went for it.
Every one of them, I promise. Leave no cliché unused.
Of course, a competent penultimate episode sets up the show to, possibly, go out of season 2 on top. But I’m not giving them any more credit than they deserve, and after a season of violence, drugs, and a hell of a lot of Veran, but nothing else, not even the promise of powerful women we had in season 1, I can’t say I expect good things. I will just expect disappointment, and that way, even if it turns out to be a decent episode, I will just be pleasantly surprised.
